[This would be Yotsuba's first real Christmas. Back home they never had the chance to celebrate in their new home before she was taken here. It was all so exciting, seeing all the bright lights and the snow.
The journal opens to show a small figure practically glued to the window of her apartment, staring out into the snow and lights. It really

He WAS going to go into the Item Shop to find some skates, but stops when he sees the little girl outside. Well, WONDERFUL.
Probably he should just keep walking.
But he DOES need the skates. Jack stands there, indecisive, with Murphy growing increasingly impatient at his side.]

Wait, is that a pony?! Oh wow, she hasn't seen a pony since she last visited the ranch! Must... Pet the pony...
Have a little five year old heading over toward you Jack. You... Probably should have kept walking.]
Pony!! Whoah, really long haired pony!
Reply
[Murphy, who is not in the least bit fierce, eyes Yotsuba. Carrot? Apple? Anything?]
Reply
[Providing Murphy is alright with it, Yotsuba will pet him and stroke and play with his ears and this is a pony aaah! Apparently saying he's fierce has done nothing to phase her.]
Yotsuba should feed him something! [It's what they did with the animals on the ranch after all.] What do ponies like again?

Jack, on the other hand, is wrapping his coat tightly around himself and crossing his arms and BAH HUMBUG.]
Dunno. He likes...carrots. Sugary treats. Apples.
Reply
Sugary stuff... Like a candy cane, right? Would that work? It's like candy, all full of sugar. Daddy says I'm not allowed to much candy. [And lo and behold, Yotsuba rummages in her coat and pulls out a little red-and-white striped candy cane.] Yotsuba knows how to do this part!
[Keeping her hand flat and placing the candy cane on top.] Eat up Murphy! Yummy!
Reply
[Too late, Jack! Every inch a gentleman---a snuffly fuzzy gentleman with tickly whiskers on his chin---Murphy claims the candycane and makes it disappear.]
Where IS your father! Tell him he should collect you!
Reply
[Where is her father, nice question. She has no idea. Not here is the best she knows, because she hardly knows how this whole luceti/malnosso/blah blah blah thing even works.]
Daddy isn't here right now. Did Yotsuba do something bad?
Reply
Your dad's not here, then? That's.... [Jack gropes for a word. He'd given Elicia his compass when she'd lost her father.] ...not so good.
Reply
Not really. I miss daddy a lot sometimes. [...Suddenly, happy cheery smiley face!] But he's gotta come get me someday! Yotsuba is going to be really good and tell Daddy about all my new friends and everything!
Reply
Aye, of course! He'll have to come get you someday! Fathers do not simply abandon their children to strange, unknown fates! They seek them out, always. He'll arrive and have you well in hand.

[Spreading her arms out as wide as she can to imitate asking for a hug, before wrapping her arms around herself very tightly. Yes, she may well be planning to hug her father to death.]
Do you have a Daddy who's going to come for you too Captain Jack?
Reply
Hmm? Whazzat? Me dad? Teague? Nah. Though Teague does tend to show when least expected and most wanted.
[Murphy, meanwhile, nudges the girl for another treat.]
Reply
Hm, nope, nothing in this one. Maybe in the other-- Ah, nothing there either.
...Turning her head up to look at Jack.]
Murphy is hungry. Yotsuba has nothing to give him. What are you going to do about it?
Reply
[Listen to yourself, Grumpy Pirate! "Honest day's work"? "Layabout rogue"? WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THIS FAMILY.
Grudgingly, handing Yotsuba his flask of rum:]
Very well. Here. You can give him a sip from this flask.
Reply
[Speaking directly into the little pony's face. Oh you silly layabout pony you. Jack says you're a layabout, therefore it must be true.
Yotsuba will take the flask in both hands. Holding it steady she manages to work it open--]
Bwaaah!! Bad smell! Strong!
