I can still recall our last summer....

Monday was July 21.
It's been a whole year since the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Seriously.  A YEAR!!!
One year ago I was impatiently getting through a show of Guys and Dolls, drawing a scar on my forehead (which didn't completely come off for a few days), and driving like a maniac to Barnes and Noble.
I had pre-ordered a copy there, but there were SO many people there that I didn't even bother getting my wristband.
I said hi to my friends, took a picture with the cardboard cut-out of Harry, and went next door to Kroger to stand in a much shorter line for the book.
I was practically crying and shaking when I got to hold it for the first time.
Then a bunch of us went over to Rachel's house to read it.
I pigged out on oreos and babybel cheese.
We would read quietly for a while, and then somebody would gasp.
I would scream, "DON'T SAY ANYTHING!!!" because I was the slowest reader and didn't want anything spoiled for me.
I was getting sick, so for a while I couldn't stop coughing.
I read until 8 AM the next morning, and then I got breakfast at McDonald's before going to sleep at my apartment. (sigh)

After that, I was a total shut-in until I finished the book.
(except for the part where I partied at Mat's every night and hooked up with a black guy)
Books 5 and 6 were both spoiled for me, so I was not going to be spoiled this time no matter what.
I nearly cried when I finally shut the book.
It was a huge milestone in my life.

I seriously can't believe all of the things that Harry Potter has given me.
So many friends that I know because of Harry.
Harry Potter brought me wizard rock.
Wizard rock brought me YouTube.
Everyone I've met through YouTube would still be a stranger without Harry Potter.
HP and YouTube have given me self-confidence.
HP gave me something to be good at, something I know practically everything about.
It's awesome to finally have an expertise.
Honestly, I'll never know as much about music as I do about Harry.
But really, the friends are the main thing.
The fandom.  The connection to so many people out there.
The books may be over, but for us, it's just the beginning.

------
I don't know if I mentioned this already, but my goal is to read 10 books by the end of the summer.
I've read 7 so far, so I'm pretty sure I'll make it, even if I have to read at choir camp.

I just got back from Alaska on Sunday.
It was absolutely amazing.
I really don't want to type about it, but I will definitely be vlogging about it soon.
