drove to chicago …
ehh spring break is pretty much over.
going back to school tomorrow afternoon/evening so i can study and do homework, because i won't get anything done here.
went to chicago with dad tuesday through today. somehow we made it there in about four hours, and back in four and a half. traffic wasn't bad at all, so i guess we picked a good time to go.
i only had one apartment to look at:
+ about a mile from the venus office
+ great location (lincoln park)
+ girl i'd be living with only sleeps there about 2 nights a week (easy to have friends from home come visit, lots of privacy)
+ good-sized bedroom
- at the high end of my budget
- girl i'd be living with only sleeps there about 2 nights a week (i'd really like a roommate i can be friends with, who will be worried about me if i don't come home)
so the good things do outweigh the bad, but the bad things are pretty significant. i didn't actually get to meet the girl who'll be living there, only the one moving out, who was really nice. i need to wait for some more options.
stuff we did (not in this order): drove around a lot looking for places i can apply for work. picked up a few applications. blew my chances of working at the virgin megastore because i don't know as much about music or movies as i should. ate at a restaurant i love (earwax cafe). drove past most of the music venues i've been reading about. took the bus downtown, then got on the bus on the wrong side of the street to go back, so we were on the bus for a looong time, half of it spent with a large, crazy, crazy, homeless, loud, crazy lady. ate really, really awesome sushi. had lunch with amy (my mentor/editor at venus). and other than some arguing on the way there and a couple little things, my dad and i got along really well.
there's still a lot i have to do … like secure a place to live and get a job … but it'll work out. i still have a bit of time. i need to go back the second weekend in april to look at more places, and by then i think i'll have a lot more options.
i'm moving to the city may 11 or 12, a week after i'm done with finals. then i'm seeing cursive/against me! on may 12 and regina spektor on may 13, and i might not have to pay for either. i already love this summer. too bad it doesn't start for another two months.
