Bloggin' again!

So the other day my friend Mitsu suggested to me that I start a blog.  So I thought about it, and then I remembered!  I already have a blog!  I just haven't written anything in it for a really long time!  Alas, I've decided to return to the world of blogging.  I don't know if anyone will actually read this, but at least I can look back on it in a few years and remember stuff that was apparently important enough to write down.

So yeah, right now I'm studying in Chile.  Well, I don't know if I would call it studying.  I'm residing in Chile.  I've been here since July 27th, and let me tell you, a lot has happened in my life.  Hmmmmm, where to start?

I'll start with my first host family.  It was just a mom and her daughter, and they were nuts.  Well, I guess it was mostly just the mom that was nuts, and as a result her daughter was a little messed up.  The mom was super controlling and was always yelling at me.  I knew things weren't going to work out when in my first week the dog pooped in my room and I was the one to get in trouble.  Apparently it was my fault the dog decided to poop in my room because I didn't shut my door.  And the whole reason I had my door open was to establish a sense of trust with my new host family.  I didn't want them to think that I was hiding anything.  Geez.  That was the first of many instances in which I got scolded for little miscommunications.  I finally decided to switch host families when I got yelled at for being online late at night.  I guess I was using electricity when I was supposed to be sleeping.  My host mom also called me disrespectful to her and all of Chile because I came home late some nights.  Yeah she was nuts.  So I moved.

Now I'm in my new apartment with my new host family.  Again, it's a mom and her daughter, but this time the daughter is super outgoing.  So we hang out sometimes which is nice.  My host sister's boyfriend is often here.  I guess he kind of lives here too.  And my host sister and her boyfriend have a cute little dog named Milka.  I feel bad for Milka because nobody ever lets her outside and when she goes to the bathroom inside she gets yelled at.  We live on the 6th floor and my sister and her bf are too lazy to take the dog out every few hours.  So once again, I have to keep my door shut so the dog doesn't poop in my room.  What is it with Chileans and their pooping dogs?

So I'm not gonna lie, I've been super homesick lately.  I've been homesick ever since I was for real sick.  After my trip to Peru, which was awesome by the way, I came down with a case of salmonella.  Now that's a fun time.  My friend Andrea, Liz, and me were all really sick for about a week.  It was awful.  And the worst part was that nobody took care of me.  I'd never wanted my mom so badly.  I guess I was fairly lucky though.  My poor friend Andrea had to go to the hospital because her fever was so bad.  At least I didn't have to go to the hospital.  So yeah, back to the topic of me being homesick.  It's not fun.  I've had zero motivation and all I can think about is how nice it would be to be back home.  But alas, hopefully my homesickness will fade away as I regain my strength and as the weather gets nicer.

Something I'm really looking forward is Gringoween!  For those of you who don't know, gringo basically means white person.  And here in Chile it's not an offensive term like it is in Mexico.  Anyway, the white kids here are throwing a Halloween party on Friday because nobody celebrates Halloween in this country.  I'm really excited.  My friend Alysha and I are going as Bilz and Pap, the extra terrestrial soft drink spokesmen that are ever so popular in Chile.  Here's a picture: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2203/2317491566_75dd1e7233.jpg?v=0  I'm gonna be the yellow one.
