Holiday, Day 1
Adventure is the unexpected.
First we had a 4 hour detour via Boston because literally as we were coming in to land in JFK there was an earthquake in Virginia so they had to close the runway and air traffic control as a precaution. So we sat on the tarmac in Boston until they could pump 2 tanker loads into the tanks and came back. Then they had to unload the A380 (400 odd people) via a mobile stairway onto buses (1 hour) and finally made it out to NY.
Then when we arrived the hotel reservation had got stuffed up, and was instead for 23rd September instead of August, so I had to phone up the booking agent in Oz and cancel it (it was in September) and get the rooms for the next 3 nights. But it ended up being about $70 cheaper anyway as the concierge gave us a special rate because she pitied us at 11 p.m., and the online booking company had obviously added a bit of cream onto the top for themselves anyway.
But anyway, we're here, and you can't change the earth when it rumbles and you can't change the weather, so...the trip is off to an adventurous start.
We have our phone on us, so we are available for calls whenever!
