Character Templates, by Genre

One of the Kickstarter stretch goals I'm working on right now are character templates.  Since Sin Nombre has no classes, these templates will just serve to help people who do not want to go off the grid to build certain common, iconic characters.  You know, kind of a , "Want to build a (character class)? Then look at these skills!" sort of thing ( Read more... )

I'd add a Genius template to the superheroes list, personally.

Do you think a genius type would be a valid PC choice, though?

I dunno. When I think 'genius' type, I think Professor X or to a lesser extent Kingpin or Ozymandias: planners and the 'brains behind the operation' who really don't get out with the team and do very much. I don't know how fun that would be to play unless the campaign were specifically set up for that kind of thing. So- seems to me more of an NPC template and a PC template.

Geniuses aren't necessarily like Professor X - they can be like Beast(who is highly educated and intelligent).Several examples of stuff Geniuses can conceiveably do: they can deduce stuff on the fly just from seeing some disparate things nobody would have thought to report, they can hack into enemy computer systems on-site, etc. etc.

In my last campaign I played a spell user who wasn't much good at anything magical, except getting information. He never lacked for things to do(usually he had more stuff to dothen our resources permitted). It was a lot of fun for me and the other players.

I see. Kind of a skill-based character, to use somewhat old-school parlance. Perhaps what I was thinking of should more properly be called, 'mastermind'
