ESCAPE PLAN #1

Jan 03, 2010 23:10

[ If you're anywhere near this computer lab, you'll noticed that Rodney has been pretty busy ripping it apart and putting it together again, school boy shirt sleeves rolled up but still slightly smarter than is normal for him. He also seems to have borrowed a whole lot of gear from the science department -- because, hello? Saving everyone, far more ( Read more... )

[Has been standing here looking around in interest for some time. Do forgive him; he's only ever seen computers as century-old husks before now]

[Now he clears his throat]

Cry pardon, sai, but what are you doing?

Of the shifting worlds?

[ Stops typing to glare. ]

No, of this room. Of course of the shifting worlds! Where else would I be trying to escape from?

[ GOES BACK TO TYPING he is never going to get anything done at this rate. ]

Why?

More to the point, sai, why like that? I know little enough about technology, but I ken this well enough; that's no hookup that will make you a new door. I've seen the doors between worlds, the magical and the mechanical, and I tell thee, that's neither.

Looks more like the Dogan...

Because I would quite like to go home?

Look, can none of you people just trust me? I mean, honestly? Unless you have a better idea, all you are doing is wasting my time and I need to get as much done as possible before the world change.

I don't trust easily, sai. And nobody is wasting your time but you yourself.

To go home, you have to step between worlds. For that, you can go todash or build yourself a door, and I'm guessing todash would be a poor substitute. It took the Manni-folk half their men - and Jake - to open the Unfound Door. To make a door... it must be complex, even if it is possible, and it must surely require huge power. Power which simply does not exist here.

[ ABOUT TO CLAW HIS EYES OUT IN FRUSTRATION. ]

This is a virtual environment. You don't need to cast any special charms or get the local shaman over to get out, I just need to overload the system.

Now. Please.

[Roland? Take the hint? Not if he doesn't want to!]

It won't work. My knowledge of this kind of technology extends little beyond spark-lights, but even I know it won't work.

Oh, ok, I see. You don't understand what I'm doing but you know it wont work

Great! You have been so helpful. I'll call you if I need your help with this again. In fact, how does -- hmm, never sound?

[Totally ignoring that last part, okay?]

Aye, I know it won't work. What you're doing is akin to firing into the bushes when your attacker's behind you - under the right circumstances, mayhap effective, and a valiant effort at it, but useless when you misjudge the situation.

You're going about this wrong, whatever 'tis you're doing, because this isn't... 'virtual'. We aren't todash or trapped or specks in the mind of some great mechanical intelligence. I doubt you'll believe me, hard-headed as you seem, but I say true when I say that this is not mechanics; this is magic. And I'm no expert in either, for my business is lead and lead is what I know, but I've travelled far enough and crossed through enough worlds to know the difference, thankee.

By all means, go on doing what you're doing. But this place is like a bend of Maerlyn's Raindbow; 'twill let you go when 'twill, and there's no fighting it.

Ka.

... Are you even speaking English? Because 90% of what you're saying is gibberish.

[Sighs. Roland is not a patient guy]

Gods...

In terms an idiot can understand, then.

What you're attempting may be useful to escape a 'virtual environment'. But this is not a 'virtual environment', and so it won't work.

[ NEITHER IS MCKAY ]

And the evidence to support your assumption is... what?

toweredingly January 4 2010, 23:35:10 UTC
I've travelled between worlds before. I've also travelled in what I suppose could be called 'virtual' - mechanical reality - and been todash - magically.

This is the former. My word on it.

[ Stops typing a moment and covers his face with his hands. Takes deep breaths. Deeeep breaths. He's getting really tired here ): ]

Ok, look, I am sure you have the best intentions here. Really I am. But I have been in virtual environments too. I have reprogrammed them before. I have been to hundreds of worlds, to parallel worlds, I know people who have traveled back in time. I am not running blind here. Now I know you have no basis on which to trust me, but if you think I am so wrong why bother to stop me. The only person whose time I am wasting is my own.
