I've never been a landed Baroness or a Crown, but I have been in various leadership rolls and through some difficult times at a Baronial level.
It seems to me that one of the things people want most is stability from their B&B. The SCA is their escape from real life and most people don't want negativity and politics to intrude on their vacations.
The greatest thing you can offer, especially after a period of turmoil, is a return to normalcy and stability. A knowledge and respect for tradition and a measured approach to change.
I don't think you need to worry about endearing yourself to the populace. I think it's something that will happen in the course of you being yourselves.
The second thing people want is empowerment and appreciation. Autocrats, officers and the populace want to be empowered to do their jobs. Knowing that one is backed by the Crowns representatives is a wonderful foundation on which to build. Knowing that ones contributions are valued and appreciated is a powerful motivator.
And lastly, I think people want to feel included in something special. Creating activities or situations wherein you can make people feel included is an excellent healing tool. I would work to create a cohesive partnership with the officers and populace, the goal of which is to heal the barony and get back on an even keal.
Once that is accomplished, people will likely be more accepting to change. That will be the time to get people excited about new ventures and new ideas.
