I have to start writing again

Mar 17, 2009 09:05

So, 75 weeks since I last posted anything here. I had an accident in November 2007; switched jobs in June of 2008, and became unemployed the same day the Obama Presidency began, January 20, 2009. At least someone started a job that day. My last thinking moment as an employed person was a meditation on the word 'urethane.' Go figure. Fluid applied ( Read more... )

I know! And that show has been just excellent of late. Pam's death really me though. I really liked that actress. Hope to see her in something else. Speaking of something else, have you seen 'Castle' yet? It's Nathan Fillion as David Boreneaz. It's kind of a guilty pleasure so far and not really that good, but they do give Nate plenty of scenery chewing to do. He's really much more natural as a leading man than Dave is, and great with the soft touch. And OF COURSE she has a 'dark past' and OF COURSE he's got his own story - a playboy type (who was raised by a playgirl type) with an old soul for a daughter (who he loves with all his heart). I'm afraid I'll be a sucker for this one.

Meanwhile on FOX, we are witnessing the impossible: Dollhouse is actually getting WORSE! I thought at first it was just because it was suffering from the normal bloating of a premiere eppy, but no. Each episode is getting worse, and I know why! Inappropriate humor. The wrong character is funny. Topher (the stupidest name Joss has come up with yet). . . must DIE. I don't believe for A SECOND that he is the boy genius he's supposed to be. Reed would've pegged him as a security risk, capped him and left his body in an elevator shaft a long, long, time ago. And it also suffers from a criminal misuse of Amy Acker.

Oh yeah, I swam 3000 yards today. That helped. Still no job though. But I feel better!

I will miss Pam too -- though honestly, she was so cool and fun I detached myself from her fast figuring they'd kill her off. It's SPN afterall.

I saw the first episode of Castle, I forgot to DVR the second one as I was sleeping, oops. I'm loving Nathan as David. That formula can be fun and Nathan is awesome when he's funny.

I wouldn't say Dollhouse is getting worse but it sure as hell isn't actually getting better. There were a few eps I found more entertaining, but I'm also finding it very heavy handed on the Echo finding herself beats -- as in what she learns or may have learned we really don't know portion of the episode.

Not only are they misusing Amy Acker but also Reed Diamond. And on Amy she got a pilot for ABC recently so either Joss has killed her off, or lost her by not tying her up as a regular. I too wish Topher was dead, mostly because he's freakin' WARREN from Buffy and that is NOT of the Good. And I don't want to see the freakin' horrible person freak of the Trio as a regular on any show.

Glad the swimming helped.

Eeee SPN tomorrow -- did you hear Kripke has titled an episode Jump the Shark?

Well it does help! I'm doing the gym today. YMCA gave me a scholarship because I'm unemployed (what other fitness club can do that?)- and it's in the Presidio and I've told you, each time I go there (it's all donated property from the Army) I feel like I'm in a movie and I should be seeing Sean Connery walk by. The Golden Gate bridge, really there and not CGI. How can anyone stay depressed in a place like that?

Yeah, Warren. That's where I saw him. He's just too Joss-Cute to be real. The whole show just doesn't connect with me emotionally. It happens with Whedon: as much as I loved 'Serenity' (I have it permanently on TIVO) I felt that most of the high note scenes played flat, missed the mark ('Little Albatross' at the end worked though. Mal as the father River needed) The only bright thing on the show is Tamoh. I saw the 'Frakkin BSG Special' and they were talking about how all the cast and crew are family and how they root for each other, and when Tamoh said it, I saw Dollhouse as the subtext. You're talking to Eddie Olmos and you find out that Joss Whedon wants you for a new series. What Dollhouse needs is a little Tricia Helfer. I guarantee, if Tricia shows up I'll pay attention!
