I know no one reads this, so I just write here.
Heard some distressing news from my ex:
Dash (our pug) has developed mineral deposits along his spine. He also has several bulging vertebral discs, which could lead to paralysis. My ex is worried that it will require expensive medical treatment, surgery etc. that may not help and end up costing her a fortune, which may result in putting him down.
She found all this out while she was at the hospital waiting on her mother's surgery for a broken hip. Bernadette, Lili's mom, is extremely handicapped, but could move around enough to use a commode next to her bed unassisted. She fell on the transfer and laid there for hours on the floor until someone - she lives in an assisted care facility - came in and found her.
So, I might be going up to Seattle in the coming weeks to help out. I know, I know - it's my ex's mother and all, but it's not about the ex; I have a separate relationship with Bernadette that we've kept together all along. I'd be helping both of them if I came up. This would be a terrible blow for her should she have to leave the Heritage House - it would mean spending the rest of her life in a nursing home.
On the upside, my uncle Pete - who had a recurrence of bladder cancer after a decade free of it - has been given a clean bill of health by his oncologist over here at Pac Med (my hospital of choice). They recommended that he continue with his chemo, which was 2 more treatments, but to wait and regain strength first. So he and my Aunt Helen drove up to Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula for a brief trip before resuming the last of his treatment. That is fantastic news.
The good new of my uncle changed my Easter plans - I usually spend it with them - so I went over to Pleasant Hill to see my friends Gordon and Sue and their two children, Sydney and Stewart. I showed up with some burritos from the Mission district (conveniently located next to the BART station on 16th) and we had a lovely weekend. We ate good food, drank (alot) - watched 'Moulin Rouge' which was amazing; I went running along the canal over there in Contra Costa county, ate more food and ended up watching the Rodreigez/Tarantino double feature "Grindhouse." My only comment: I want to marry Zoe Bell, (dump that guy you're with). She spends a disconcerting amount of time loosely tied to the hood of a white 1970 Dodge Challanger (my brain lit up: Kowalski - from "Vanishing Point") that was being pounded at actual high speed by a lunatic in a black car driven by Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell, in another brilliant and shameless performance).
I've stabilized my weight at 164-165. I've literally run out of holes in all of my belts, but some of my better clothes - bought at more optimistic times - fit really, really well. Going shopping my next paycheck!
