So I mangaed to finish re:coded over the weekend. The semi-final and final boss battle were pretty intense, it reminds me of the one in BbS Terra's story and Final Episode.
Sora's heartless battle is damn badass. Not that weak Shadow heartless but a Darkside with some additional paintjob. Once you deplete the first form's health bar, it changes into anti-Sora. And he wields a Keyblade. Did he use one back in KH1? I don't remember. But in re:coded, those moves and attacks are definitely exclusive in this game. Its Keyblade almost looked like it was made of light, and then the gold Keyblade after the Keyblade rain-like attack? Awesome. We can call it the semi or final boss if it doesn't have several forms before going down, right?
Sora's Heartless battle consists of five rounds; the Darkside form, Anti-Sora form x1, Anti-Sora form x3, Anti-Sora form x3(more aggresive), and finally a plot battle where Mickey appears and uses his Keyblda to hold the Darkside while Sora can pummel his Shadow.
Then we have the final boss, ???. Lol, if this is the first Kingdom Hearts game you're playing, then you'd probably no idea who the hell is that guy in black. He wields two Keyblade, and his battle theme sounds so melancholic. His attacks are light-based and he sounded kinda young(Jesse McCartney's voice). It's pretty obvious who he is to veteran players. The battle took place in "The Station of Sorrow," the same one when you fought OrgXIII members in Castle Oblivion. Unless you have fought ??? in KH2FM, this is probably the first instance one can fight him in a localized KH game.
I couldn't help but to grin at the scene afterwards. Even if they're just data versions of their original selves, it's still ship-worthy. Here's an excerpt of the dialogue:
???: My role was to see if you were ready to take ownership of the hurt inside you. And now that role is done. Nothing left for me to do but... go away.
Sora: Go home?
???: I don't know if I have one, but... there's a place I'd like to be.
Sora: Where?
STOP! Haha, I don't want to spoil too much about the game here. But can you guess where ??? wanted to be? Anyway, after ??? did what he did:
Sora: Huh? What's this feeling? Memories, but... not mine. I see a place. A sunset. Comforting... but also sad. This is where I spent my first... and my last...
summer vacation.
Sora: Rest easy... Your hurt can be mine now.
Awww, Sora. Well, technically it's Data-Sora but they're the same people anyway.
And lastly, the final scene before the ending credits:
Namine: As for the third... I never realized it, but... you and he share a share a very special connection.
"Special" indeed. I doubt Sora remembers since it was a long time ago, haha. It sounded kinda dirty. Poor Ve- /shot
