Boston Sucks
Boston has established itself as a city that knows no altruism, after considering denying a New York man’s $2,300 charity donation that will change the name of the FleetCenter to “Derek Jeter Center” for one day.
Kerry Konrad, an attorney and New York resident, won a bid on eBay, the internet auction mega-site, that gives him the right to rename the FleetCenter for one day, all proceeds going to charity.
The FleetCenter, which is running this promotion while it is in the process of renaming, has shown great hesitation to rename the arena after one of the city’s most infamous sports rivals.
It is this great hesitation that officially makes Boston the most conceited city in the United States of America, finally topping long-standing queen city of arrogance, Los Angeles.
The fact that Boston has even considered sacrificing $2,300 that could go to charity just so they don’t look foolish should justify this completely.
Another donation of note out of the Massachusetts capitol came last November, when Boston Red Sox centerfielder Johnny Damon shaved his trademark lumberjack-esque beard for charity, again, showing no self-sacrifice, in that the shaving of his beard actually made him look less a moron. Where is the sacrifice?
It comes as no surprise to this writer that this is the same town that sent the Baseball Hall-of-Fame in Cooperstown a bloody sock.
What should Boston do? It’s a matter of pride, really. They need to tilt their heads back, relax their throat, and take a big gulp.
Also, donating $100,000 would be a good start.
Then, they can fire the public relations wizard who didn’t see this one coming.
