Saw a couple of Sturges films recently. Good stuff:

Sullivan's Travels (1941) - rich film director sets out to learn what it's like to be poor - hilarity ensues. At least in part inspired Coen brothers' O Brother Where Art Thou? (2000)

And The Great McGinty (1940) - an honest man loses it all from one minute of dishonesty, and a corrupt politician loses it all from one minute of honesty:
