Awful/Awesome idea: customizable rating schemes
So, forever ago, Margie and I did up all these ratings of vampire movies. There were many categories on which each movie was rated (15? 20? LOTS.) The overall rating was the average of everything. Simple math.
And the average of pretty much everything was like 3.5 or something. For every movie. Even the shittiest ones. So kinda useless.
What if there was a way to take a bunch of ratings and prioritize what *you* were interested in? So, weight away from "gritty grimdark realism" and in favor of "pretty costumes and/or people." Or "follows accepted canon" or whatever. It would mean that every review in the system would have to have several ratings for different categories. But that aside... this would be an actually useful tool.
This could be applied to pretty much anything that people can review.
This is the awesome side of my awful/awesome ideas, I think.
