So I went for my MRI this afternoon. After registering in and being given a gown to put on (I was able to leave my bra and leggings on, since I could pull the left legging up all the way so it wouldn't interfere) I was quickly ushered into the MRI room. That tech was so totally gay, I swear! He didn't quite flame, but he surely sparked a lot!
Anyway, I got up on the table and lay down, and he put some kind of targeting gel on the lump, then wrapped both my legs tightly together under this velcroed pad that went from about mid-thigh to mid-calf. *Then* he taped my feet together (over my socks), and I was given strict instructions to not move. Yeah, like I actually could! At any rate, the imaging bit took about 45 minutes total, the first 30 of which was without contrast dye, and the remainder after injecting me with the dye.
The tech, when he was ready to inject the dye, asked me which arm to use. I told him the right one had been working pretty good. He put on the tourniquet, examined the elbow area, didn't see anything that looked promising, and went and looked at the left elbow area. He thought he could get it there, but was not able to. Strike One. So he went and tourniquetted the left wrist area, and tried the back of the left hand (owie!). Nada. Strike Two.
So he called in one of the other aides, that he said had a better touch with the hard draws. She looks at the right elbow, doesn't see anything that she thinks will work. Goes and tries the right wrist. Gets a wee bit of blood flow, but not enough to inject the dye through. Strike One. She then asks if it is okay to try again, and I grudgingly say yes because I know that they really want the contrast images, and what the heck I'm already there. So she goes back to the right elbow area, tourniquets it off, and tries it. AND IT WORKS.
Y'know, if they'd have just tried there in the first place like I told them too, I could've saved myself three additional prickings! *Grump*
Next time, I'll be sure to stick to my guns about where to stick me!
At any rate, I should hear something from my doctor within the next 5-7 days, most likely.
On the plus side, I have my last dose of antibiotics tomorrow morning - then no more horse pills, yay!
And on an unrelated note, after finally giving up the search for my missing Scrabble Dictionary ('lo these last three days of looking) I went and bought the all-new Fourth Edition at the bookstore today.
So guess what Critter finds lodged in the couch cushions this evening? Yep - my trusty Third Edition! Ain't that always the way of the world?? At least now I can have one volume at the upstairs computer and one for the downstairs computers!
Ah well... off to try and regain my orange ranking! Goodnight, LJ land!
