NYC Midnight “Rhyming Story Challenge”

Sep 24, 2022 00:27

When I first read about the Rhyming Story Challenge, I was intrigued, so what the hell - I signed up. I love poetry, I enjoy writing fiction, so what could be more interesting than combining the two??

We have one week (due by 10/1) to submit a rhyming story (in whatever rhyme scheme we like) with a maximum word count of 600 words. There’s no minimum word count.

We just got our assignments.

My genre is Romantic Comedy
My theme is Fulfillment
My emotion is Skeptical

Not as bad as it could be; at least I got a genre that I’m comfortable with!

Per the rules: The assigned emotion needs to be expressed in the story at least once. For example, if the assigned emotion is "angry", you don't need to specifically include the word "angry" in your story as long as the emotion is being described. As an example, a character "clenching their fists in rage" would clearly express the emotion of anger.

One link we were given as an example was for the runner-up entry from their 2020 Flash Fiction Challenge, titled “Emily Marlow, Subconscious P. I.” which can be read here: https://www.nycmidnight.com/stories/emily-marlow

Fingers crossed I can come up with something good by the deadline. Wish me luck?? Please??

personal, writing, i'm really doing this
