while looking up some psych stuff i found an interesting combination of articles:
I Proudly Lack Ambition by 'moreanonymous', and Do Women Lack Ambition? by Anna Fels. Inbetween watching a re-run of the first episode of HerosMix this up with some jungian personality typing. Note the masculine image associated with "ambition", with the Male ideal ( Read more... )

Hi Roid! :-)

I haven't been on LJ for a long time. Anyway, I don't really know how to respond. I have thoughts on it (of course). But don't know what to respond really.

It's controversial to say that the environment after a child is born affects sexuality (really controversial). Many people realize their sexuality (or unknowingly express it) pretty young. I mean, I would say that even though I was not a particularly sexual kid I was already a lesbian when I was 2 or 3. I've noticed that in pictures I always seem to be exploring one of my aunts anatomy and there are also pictures where it looks like I'm making my Barbies are kissing.

haha barbies (cute). but ok, Nurture vs Nature, you're right.
Nature is as you say, as plain to see as as barbies kissing. It's obvious. So obvious that it's barely worth debating.

But Nurture also has an influence, perhaps small but it's there. And i wonder if it's bigger than people give it credit for. And if not that, then it can at least be acknowledged as a cause of anxiety - an anxiety that i hope has a key to disarm it.

I mean, i remember how insecure all us young boys were about our sexuality as kids. Where "fag" so quickly becomes the defacto catchall term for anything undesirable. It was a witchhunt, all of us terrified of doing anything that would make us a target. The games kids play, it was nuts, we were animals.

Mostly i'm trying to figure out what's acceptable and why. what's feminine, what's masculine, and why.
And i don't mean politically correct "oh, well none of it should really matter". It's not that homosexual sex doesn't appeal to a particular large group of people - it actually terrifies them ( ... )

Hey, Roid. I'm sorry I'm like never here, and didn't realize you had replied.

so you're saying that environment can affect sexuality. and you're examples are that younger brothers may feel that they are not as masculine as there older brothers, or may feel that they will always feel weak if they try to be masculine, so they go where they don't have to fight and try to be masculine (gayland) but, this obviously only happens to a few younger brothers.

And, lots of people are straight only cuz they are terrified of being gay.

I guess my argument here would be that there are probably more "gay" people than anyone knows but they are just heavily closeted (even to themselves most of the time. Maybe, there aren't more gay younger brothers there are just more closeted older brothers ( ... )
