When it comes to math, Baton Rouge Magnet High School has a solid reputation. This year’s Mu Alpha Theta convention was held from April 6-8 at the Holiday Inn Select, where the BRMHS club had no problem living up to expectations. Members who placed in the top five in their event include Breeana Baker, Rodney Chang, Jack Cochran, Andrew Gowdy, Anuj Jhunjhunwala, Jonathan Lee, Allen Liao, Farinaz Khan, Jan Petykiewica, Richard Pang, David Sangokoya, Joyatee Sarker, Nabil Thalji, Helen Tsao, and Geewey Yue. Baton Rouge High also won 1st place in Gemini in the Theta and Alpha divisions as well as 2nd place in the Mu A and B divisions. In Ciphering, the Theta and Alpha teams finished 3rd while the Mu B team finished 1st. Jack Cochran was the top cipherer in the Mu A division and Richard Pang finished 1st in the scholarship test. In the school events, Baton Rouge High finished 1st in Scrapbook, 6th in Hustle, and 1st in the upper level interschool test. The Bulldogs won 1st place sweepstakes. In addition to faring well on tests, Baton Rouge High was also well represented in state office. Joyatee Sarker headed the convention as State President. Next year’s State President will be Sally Park. Club President Nabil Thalji was thrilled with the club’s performance. “I was really, really happy. Everyone did an amazing job. We did even better than last year,” said Thalji. One deciding factor was the upper level interschool test, ___________________________. “After we won upper level interschool, I was confident we would win sweepstakes,” said Thalji.
