‘Tis the season. It is time for the long awaited winter break. Family, presents, sleep, and no work are some of the things students look forward to during their holidays. But before play time, there is one thing that all students dread - midterms. Midterms, running from December 16 to 21 this year, mean different things to different people. Most freshmen think of it as their first real test of high school. Sophomores generally view it as a mere hump before winter break. Juniors, commonly having the most difficult schedule, are cramming enormous amounts of information before each test. “It's late nights trying to stay awake and study but then it's winter break and it's all good,” said junior Millie Dave. Seniors see it as the last grades colleges will receive. “I want to keep all my grades up for my Mid-Year Reports going to colleges,” said senior Maxwell Irvine. “After this semester I’ll get into colleges and the pressure will be off.” The final leg of the semester is no easy task. Many people tackle this problem in groups. Group study sessions at Charlie’s or CC’s Coffee House are the preferred learning environment of many upperclassmen. With Louisiana State University finished with class, the coffee shops are swarming with Baton Rouge High students. The midterm examination process can be a burden on teachers as well. Some teachers make new tests every year and each teacher is then required to submit their midterm exam to the administration before testing begins. Another stressful aspect is grading hundreds of exams in a short time can be a hassle as well.
