Xubuntu- too soon to tell yet. The laptop I put it on is one that I am hoping to be able to just use for writing. Part of that will depend on how well the old battery holds up, and if I can find/configure a wireless card for it that will work with the OS. Other than that, if it can run a web browser and a text editor, I will be fine with it. Doing the full Ubuntu install from CD was NOT working, just not enough oomph in it. If I really hate Xubuntu and that NIX can do PXE, I will try the network install. I do not know if that NIC can go there, have not dug into yet.
Today/tonight is my day to attempt to configure networked drives and printing on those boxes. So far, I am loving Ubuntu out of the box. It is a very nice install. I am also likeing getting my command line feet wet again. Wow, I am SO rusty. It is lousy. It is one of the drivers for me to get these boxes up and running. That and I do NOT want to go the Vista route , I really miss having a laptop to work on whenever Ogre is not here and has our shared win laptop with him ( now I can have one of my own and not be hassling over it), and it was killing me having perfectly useful hardware sitting around and collecting dust. This weekend hardware either becomes productive or it gets tossed. Next weekend will be my chance to see if the laptops work with any of the webcams we already own. The M300, I really do not care about. The Latitude I have intentions of being a full household/guest multimedia Laptop and want it to be really functional. I also need to contact Dell and see if I can get a replacement CD drive for it.
