Mid-April Update

April has been a very challenging month for me, but life without challenges is boring, right?

The most challenging situation in my life over the past couple months has been the situation with my family, specifically my Dad. We are more out of touch now than ever before. He adamantly disagrees with my lifestyle and seeing eacnother is sooo akward. It really bothers me because me being gay is just a small portion of who I am. Yes, I like Dudes, but do I have a Rainbow sticker on my car, do I introduce myself as gay, most people have no frickin idea! We'll see what happens in time, but right now I'll just focus on those people who do accept me.

Over the past couple months I've also had a difficult time with romantic relationships (but who doesn't?). So many awesome guys keeping popping into my life, but most of them just don't have the IT factor and the ones that do just aren't 'where I am at in life' or seem to be 'players'. I know in time I'll meet someone who is amazing so I'm not too discouraged, but it can be frustrating sometimes.

Work has been cool. This is the one aspect of my life that rocks. Since getting hired early (after only three weeks on extern) my skill level continues to improve. I love my co-workers, and its a wonderful office to work at. In the past I spoke of going into Hygiene and then possibly becoming a Dentist, but that was never my original goal or plan that I set in January 2007. Going into Hygiene has been mostly motivated by pay and laziness.

In December of 2006 (seems sooo long ago) I originally met with the admissions counselor at Concorde Career Institute to go into the Surgical Tech program. After she explained the costs, amount of schooling, the times of the program and my need to continue working full time, she steered me towards the Dental Assistant program. I love what I do, don't get me wrong, but surgery and operations are sooo cool. I LOVE watching the Surgery programs on cable! After doing a research paper on Oral Surgery last Spring and visiting an Oral Surgeon's office last fall I know that is truly where my heart lies. And who knows, maybe I could go back to Concorde and do the Surgical Tech program after things have settled down for me and I'm working for a cool Oral Surgeon.

My new (original) goal is to stay at Willamette Dental for a while and to continue improving my skills. This fall I will start looking for an Oral Surgery Assistant position within Willamette and maybe someday find a private doctor to work for.

Oh, I've also been kicking my ass by jogging regularly, doing some push-ups and sit-ups too. Woo hoo! My current weight of 190 to 195 is the lightest I have been since 1998! Crazy! I hope to get a membership to 24 Hour Fitness after I work out my finances and budget. I hope everyone has a great rest of April. I'll past again in my birthday month, May!
