Politics and Jersey Girl

Aug 20, 2005 00:03

I was on TV today! Well, the local TV, for about 3 seconds, but still. Worst thing is that I think the guy who interviewed me was in my class a few years ago. Hehe. Was out shopping with my mom, when this guy comes up to me and puts a mike in my face and starts asking me about the election, and what I'm gonna vote for and such. The interview itself probably lasted for a minute or two, but I was only on TV for 3 seconds.. still funny though. Politics is one of the things I find it really hard to get involved in, I know I should because it's important, but I doubt I'll vote this year either. I felt like I was babbling like an idiot when I answered the questions, but my mom said I did really good, and she wouldn't lie about something like that.

As I said mom and I were out shopping, didn't really get anything. I bought baby clothes for Marianne's baby, her due date is in 9 or 8 days, so I want to have something to give her when I visit them. :) I also got a pretty sweater for myself. It was a stunning blue color, and since I love blue, and it fit so nicely I just had to have it. Was a really nice trip out, has been a long time since just me and my mum went out together.

I just watched Jersey Girl for the second time, bought it a week or two ago, so finally had to see it. I really like that movie it's very sweet, and I think Ben Affleck does a really good job in it. However I am one of the few who prefer him (very much) to Matt Damon, so that might play a little part. It is a kind of role I've wanted to see him in though, didn't really expect him to play a parent in a film yet, even though it was a Kevin Smith film. I really like Kevin Smith film, but this is a bit more innocent than his previous stuff, but I still like it very much.

Quotes I like from the movie (spoilers)

Girl #1: My mom and dad are very religious. At night I hear them scream, Jesus!

Boy #3: My Mum says my Dad has brown eyes because he is full of shit.

Ollie: George Michael is all about the ladies. "I want your sex". Does that sound like he's singing to a guy?

Gertrude Steiney: [very pregnant Gertrude is getting ready for the VMAs] You try getting ready quickly when you look like this! I'm so fat and there's gonna be nothing but beautiful skinny girls there!
Ollie: That's because they're all coked-out whores, honey.
Gertrude Steiney: [now crying] I wanna be a coked-out whore!
Ollie: Okay. You can be a coked-out whore. You can be a coked-out, coked-out whore.

Ollie: Isn't that cute? It's 8 o'clock and you both get a bottle.

Ollie: "Cats" is the second worst thing that ever happened to New York City.

[after talking to Gertie, after finding her with Brian without their pants on]
Ollie: Do you have any questions about what you saw?
Gertie: [thinking hard] Do you have what Brian has?
Ollie: Yes.
Gertie: [after thinking hard again] Is it as big as his?
Ollie: Sadly, yes.

Maya: I do it at least twice a day.
Ollie: Good God!

Maya: Man cannot live on porn alone.

Maya: Forget about what you thought you were and just accept who you are.

Will Smith: What's your daughter's name?
Ollie: Gertrude.
Will Smith: Damn why'd you do that man?

So in short, if you're a Kevin Smith fan, you'll like it. If not, you just might like it anyway. ;)

Liv Tyler is really sweet in it too, wasn't really expecting her to pop up in a Kevin Smith film, dunno why, but am glad she did. And I always enjoy George Carlin in Kevin's movies.

Oh! And for those of you who buy the DVD, you just have to watch, Roadside Attractions, they're hilarious. Don't really have anything to do with the film, but you must watch!

Slightly freakish River Tam (Serenity) clip to be found HERE. Go watch! I want Serenity now dammit!

"I see you."
