tuesday last, in a landfill in northern illinois, the body of an infant boy was found by landfill workers. i heard about this because my cousin, who works for the landfill in grayslake, is one of the the employees who found the body. the news story is here. i was absolutely horrified. i can't believe that people can act like this. when dana told me what had happened, i thought this was the kind of thing i'd see on law & order. not something i'd ever encounter in real life.
the only additional information he was able to give me that wasn't in the news report was that the cause of death had been determined to be asphyxiation. they still haven't found the mother, from what he has heard. but it was not a surprise that he told me everyone at his work wanted to find her because they all wanted some answers.
