The Postman's Revenge

► No doubt it was because I was so worried about going to the electric company and the disability pension office today, but I had a horrible time trying to sleep last night. It wasn't until after 3:00am that I finally fell asleep only to toss and turn and finally wake up around 5:30am. I spent the rest of the morning feeling exhausted yet wire, with my entire body aching (that I'm blaming on the sudden rise in temperature and humidity today, as they're calling for thunderstorms).

Things went well at both the electric company and the pension office. There was no charge for getting new copies of the 3 bills I needed from 2011, as it turned out that they only charge you for them if it's 4 bills or more. The pension office waiting was empty except for one attractive young woman (possibly early 20s) so there were no scary or disturbing looking people there. I did have to wait a couple of minutes before the secretary showed up on the other side of the bulletproof glass wall. I slipped my envelop through the slot and she asked for and added my birthdate to the front and that was it. I'm really hoping I don't have to go back anytime soon to go over any of the information or updates.

After that, Dad and I went to the mall downtown where he picked up some groceries for my grandmother and I bought some chocolate bars and cookies on sale. We then stopped at Walmart where he picked up some vitamins for her. I was going to get my groceries there but it was so packed that Dad suggested we leave and come back after visiting my grandmother. We were at her place for a couple of hours before we returned.

Turns out Walmart was having some kind of anniversary sale, for what I have no idea. They had a bunch of DVDs in sale displays, a lot that I wanted, but I only picked up 4. Still, that's 4 more than I should have. For $5 I picked up a triple feature DVD with 3 Tom Hanks comedies from the 1980s: The Money Pit, The 'Burbs, and Dragnet. For $10 each, I got Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Woman In Black, and Darkwing Duck: Vol 2. All three of those were a bit of a catch for me since I loved Rise... when I saw it on cable last week and I almost bought The Woman... for $15 last Friday. Darkwing Duck: Vol 2 also lets me finish off that series as I had bought the first volume over a year ago (they had the second volume at the time, but it had disappeared the next time I went to get it).

The off shot of this is that I've burned through most of my money this month and I'm going to have to be careful for the next two weeks. I can manage.

► A couple of weeks ago I commissioned a 24" x 72" Superman poster from a Chinese seller on Ebay and it arrived this morning. I was talking to Deana, my sister, in the hall outside our bedrooms when there was a loud bang. Dean thought it was the cat so we rushed to the front room and I heard the security door downstairs slam shut and saw a Canada Post delivery truck in the driveway. I opened our front door and my poster package fell into the room. Seems that instead of buzzing the apartment or walking up a single flight of stairs, the delivery guy merely threw the poster at our door with such force that it bent the package in 2 places and crumpled the ends. It took me 5 minutes to slowly peel the thick cardboard tube off to get the poster out. Unrolling the poster I found that there's crumpling down the middle of the 72 inch long length. Very nice.

I wonder if it's the same delivery guy who last Spring buzzed the apartment and then threw a package with a DVD set Deana ordered at me from from foyer. Jackass.

► From chat:Matt: So considering it was in IMAX and was an ad for the Bluray release, you'd think Raiders would not have been a grainy copy from 81
Derek: ...they fucked up?
Derek: I'm interested in getting the Bluray just to see if you can better make out Marion's bush in that silky dress in the scene on top of the submarine
Derek: or boat, not a submarine, boat
Matt: could make it out fine in IMAX
Sideshow Experience: Indiana Jones - Pursuit of the Ark Statue - That looks really cool. I want to see what it looks like fully painted.

DailyFailCenter: Sexy Darth Vader Cosplay - It certainly is.

9gag: Fort Kickass - That is a pretty kickass fort.

9gag: Awesome pumpkin sculpture - ...and that's a fucking frightening sculpture.

Jezebel: Woman Discovers Creepy Ex-Boyfriend Living in Her Attic: A Journey in Gifs - Creepy indeed.

Gutters: Spoiler, Thy Name is Marvel - Finally, a funny Gutters strip. I really don't understand why Marvel keeps doing this, it reeks of desperation and neediness ("Mainstream media, validate us!"). All of that aside, along with the point that this is a funny strip today, equating a song about the government run systematic abuse and mistreatment of an entire culture and race of people with some PR idiots spoiling comic book stories is a bit distressing. Also, Xavier totally should have danced at the end.

Robot Chicken : I Got Suped - More than half of the Silver Age Superman stories were like this, well, minus the exploding children.
