► This has been a bit of a rough week for me. Erratic nerves, bouts of vertigo, dental pain, fatigue... I talked with Dad on Tuesday or Wednesday and told him I didn't feel up to going out this week. He said it was fine and stopped by today with some of the groceries I was intending to pick up. So that was really nice. I definitely have to go out next week, however, since I'll have to hit several places for my big start of the month supply stock-up.
Also my
Black Widow standee is in at the comic shop, and need to get that.
► As of this week I finished paying my friend John the last of the $125 he fronted me for a pre-arranged sketch of
Superman by famed comic book artist
George Pérez for the September Ohio comic cons. I'm glad to get that paid off.
Earlier this week John was able to negotiate and arrange 2 sketches for me from
G.I. Joe comic book artist
Robert Atkins, one will be a headshot of Superman, and the other will be a figure drawing of my favourite G.I. Joe character
Beach Head. John again fronted me the money for these sketches (also pre-arranged for pick up at the Ohio comic cons in September), and I'll start paying him back next week. Actually, I should have them paid off completely in 2 weeks.
After thinking about it, since I've got the Perez Superman, and Atkins Superman and Beachhead sketches set, I'm going to pass on pre-arranging more drawings for the conventions. I figure this is fine for now, as the shows are still almost two months away. When we get closer to the dates I might send John a bit more to look for some Superman books for me or one of two knickknacks, but for the most part this is it for now.
Until I inevitably change my mind. I mean, you never know what might come up.

CBR Spinoff Online: 20% to 25% of Moviegoers Afraid to Go to Theaters This Weekend - From chat:Derek: I think it's highly unlikely something like last Friday will happen this weekend
Matt: Or in the next 10 years
Derek: right
I don't blame people for being scared, but it was an isolated incident, and despite how the media may spin things, highly unlikely to suddenly create a theater shooting epidemic.

DeviantART: Bombattack gallery (superhero splatter art) - These are pretty cool. I especially like the

CBR Robot 6: DC Comics hints at linewide crossover in late 2013 - I thought this was a foregone conclusion. Anyway, I'm not concerned. Before
the New 52 relaunch I was collecting 1 regular DC titles, and that jumped to 8. I'm now down to 7, and with the way some of the books are going I may only have 2 titles in my pull list by the end of this year.

People: Kristen Stewart's Apology to Robert Pattinson for Cheating - I don't mean to make light of her life, but
Kristen Stewart's become an actress cliche twice over (getting involved with costar, sleeping with director). She should get together with
Kate Beckinsale and form a support group.

David Mitchell's Soapbox: Gangster Movies - From Facebook:Derek: I generally don't care for gangster films either.
Matt: Agree on gangster films (except that I don't think The Godfather is good), but disagree on Westerns.
Derek: Yeah, I love westerns too. Westerns work so well because of the mythic qualities inherent in the stories. Akin to tales of Japanese samurai or English knights. Granted it was a much shorter period of time, but it was one that made an indelible mark on the burgeoning film industry given how recent it was.
Matt: Well, you hit the nail on the head. Westerns are not about the period in American History in the mid 1800s. They tend to be proxied stories of Japanese Samurai, English Knights, or other non-American heroic traditions adapted to an American setting.
Derek: This makes me think, I'd like to see what Greek Myths, particularly
Heracles, would look like adapted to the Western genre.
Matt:
Oh Brother Where Art Though is a Western version of
the Odyssey, essentially.
Derek: That's true.
