► And once again, I expect nothing to happen.
We had a massive thunderstorm yesterday that started around 5:00pm. When the rain and the wind suddenly shifted to almost gale force, I ran around the apartment closing windows. While shutting the front windows I commented to Dean that I hoped the jackass across the street had brought his 3 massive German Shepard/wolf mixed dogs into the building before taking disappearing for the day. She asked me if the dogs were still in their ramshackle fenced pen and I said I couldn't tell (after complaints about the shoddy living conditions of the dogs last year, animal control had him increase the size of the pen, and he hid it behind a small trailer just out of eyesight). It was right then that the wind picked up a bunch of sheets and debris from the top of the pen and the whole thing cam crashing down. Worried about the dogs having been in there I kept my eyes glued to the window but didn't seen any movement until after a few minutes the dogs bolted out from under the wreckage and started running panicked all around the dead end, not stopping to find shelter.
Dean grabbed the phone book and attempted to call the humane society of animal control but they all close at 5:00pm. Because nothing involving animals happens after that. Eventually she dialed 911 and handed me the phone. I ended up with a dispatcher who put me through to the OPP (provincial police), who were confused when I said I was in city limits and not on the highways. Eventually I finally got the local police and after explaining everything that happened, they said the police would be here shortly. I then went downstairs to tell Dean, as she went to stand outside the building and try to keep an eye on things. By this point the neighbours in the first floor apartments were out and watching, and I ended up talking with them for quite awhile. Eventually the guy in apartment 2, who has been near the dogs before, managed to get them all together and calmed them down and was able to get the pen back up and the dogs securely inside.
It was only after that, roughly 30 minutes after I talked to 911, that a single police officer arrived. He looked around, saw that the dogs were now secure, and left. That was it. Three hours after the whole incident occurred, the jackass owner finally arrived and he and a couple of other guys were doing something with the pen. Since he took over the former fruit distribution facility 3 years ago, he's turned the end of this avenue into a junkyard, with piles of debris and crap everywhere. His first act was the call the city and have them put a sign in front of our building to keep us from parking on the street in front of it. Two years ago there was a period of several months where the police, fire department and other organizations were showing up at the building at least once a week, along with an incident where the police raided the second floor apartment of the building and found the guy's tenant had a pot farm. He brought the dogs in not long after, and animal control has been here several times due to the dogs running loose, barking, and the horrible conditions he's keeping them in. This whole area is pavement and the dogs are stuck sitting and standing on it all the time. Those poor animals should be on a farm or somewhere with soft ground and grass. But given everything that's happened in the past 3 years, I doubt there will be any improvement or change in the conditions there.
Note: According to my neighbours in the apartment directly below us, the guy is renovating the fruit distribution facility to make it into apartments. But given how the work is stop & start, and amounts to them moving one pile of junk along the street to another spot along the street, I doubt it'll be finished anytime in the next decade. Also, apparently he has 24 hour live feed cameras set up around the property so he can see and monitor everything that's going on. This means he more than likely was completely aware of what was happening with the dogs as it was happening last night. That makes his waiting 3 hours to show up and check on them all the more disgusting. At the very least, even if he didn't know something had happened, he should have came by to make sure the dogs were all right given the severity of the storm.
I really hate this guy.
Additional Note: I was surprised at how calm Stormy seemed while the thunderstorm raged. Last time we had a big storm a few weeks ago he was panicked, arching his back and running sideways up and down the halls in the apartment. Actually, he was fairly subdued all afternoon and evening (he did act up quite a bit in the morning). It does amuse me to talk about Stormy and the storm.
► After a week and a half back at work, Dean missed yesterday because she couldn't sleep the night before. She assured me that she was fine and that it is not the start of another "1 day turning to 3 months" crash cycle, but she woke me up at 3:00am today and told me she couldn't sleep and won't be going in today. If she misses tomorrow I'm calling the mental health crisis team for her, because I can't handle this stress anymore, worrying about bills possibly going unpaid and losing the apartment when I'm giving her my share of everything right away. I'm just so worn out from all of this...

Derek: okay, now they're officially making shit up
KimW: lol, y'think?
KimW: That's a tumblr for people who claim they have
Disassociative Identity Disorder but conveniently they have "headmates" who are fictive characters.
Derek: eeeeh, better not add this and my comment to my next Journal entry
KimW: lol
Derek: ah, what the hell

Facebook - U.S. Marine Corps (USMC)'s Photos: If you are a... - A guy on my
Facebook friends list shared this photo. Fine by me. I unfriended him.
For the record I sincerely doubt that this page has any actual association with the
U.S. Marine Corps, given all the threatening language and posts it has regarding the President and the current administration. In other words, the head of the U.S. Marine Corps (the president being the
Commander-in-chief). I think this page more than qualifies as treasonous and a
hate site.

Eonline News: Russell Brand "Unfulfilled" by Film Career, Seeks Return to Stand-Up Comedy - Given how much of a deal he made in his second autobiography about movie stardom being his ultimate goal, I actually feel rather sad for
Russell Brand. It sounds like he discovered that what he wanted wasn't really what he wanted. No idea whether that goes for his marriage to
Katy Perry.

CBR: Being Grant Morrison: From "HAPPY!" To MorrisonCon & Beyond - From the interview,
Morrison says:"The "
Action Comics" run concludes with issue #16..."
Well that bites. I thought he was on the title for the long run and planning to completely revitalize and expand on the
Superman mythos for the next couple of years as he's been doing with
Batman. Given how shoddy the direction has been on the self-titled
Superman comic book with 3 creatives teams in one year, this doesn't bode well for the continuing direction of the
New 52 Superman on a whole.
Man this is disappointing. Looks like I might end up dropping the Superman titles in less than half a year as it now seems like there's a real possibility of them turning into a mess in time for Superman's 75th anniversary in 2013. Bleah.

Tumblr: Nettie Harris: Photo July 19, 2012 - I've been a bit fixated on this photo of model Amanda "Nettie" Harris for the last several days. I just really like the whole dirty and disheveled feral look she has in it.
