Hawk-tastic!

► Holy cow! Wow, that made my day! I was feeling really crummy all day, depressed and anxious, but that's cleared up instantly. I got an email from my friend John telling me that Darryl Banks had sent him a scan of the Hawkwoman sketch he arranged for him to draw for me. He later sent me the scan himself and I was blown away! It's gorgeous!

Now I still love the Mera sketch Darryl drew for me (courtesy of John again) in 2010, but you can really see the difference between that sketch being one quickly done at a busy convention, and the new Hawkwoman sketch which was done in the quiet of his home long before the con. If everything goes according to plan, John will be picking up the drawing this Saturday, and I'll be sending him the money on Sunday. After that it'll probably be a couple of weeks before I finally have it in my hands.

John said he reminded Darryl to add a bit of personalization to the drawing, and when I have a scan of that I'll be posting it to my Comic Art Fans gallery. However, I couldn't wait until then to show off the drawing here, so here it is. Man, it's a beauty! I'm all excited!

DC Comics Blog: DC Entertainment Reveals DC Universe Titles For Spring 2013 - The article title does a piss-poor job of explaining it, but this is a list of DC Comics related tradepaperbacks scheduled for release from January through April 2013. I've already noted the books I want:► Batgirl Vol. 1: The Darkest Reflection (Feb)
► Superman Vs. Shazam! TP (Feb)
► Showcase Presents: Superman Family Vol. 4 TP (Mar)
► Superman: Reign of Doomsday TP (Mar)
► Superman Beyond: Man of Tomorrow TP (Apr)
I'm most excited about the Superman Vs. Shazam! tradepaperback because they're finally collecting the magazine size special issue from the late 1970s where they first met and fought. I've been wanting to get that for a long time.

Daily Mail: Mom who made sex tape with son, 16, is jailed for four years... but says it was just a case of 'genetic attraction' after they were reunited after 15 years apart - And I'm feeling genetically nauseated.

Metro: Ben Kingsley's character in Iron Man 3 revealed as The Mandarin - I'm surprised they're going with the Mandarin. Cue the accusations of racism and comparisons to Fu Manchu.

Jezebel: ‘Breastaurants’ Angle For a New Generation of Leering Wing-Eaters - I'd still rather go to A&W.

Kotaku: Aisha Tyler Rants “I’ve Been a Gamer Since Before You Could Read.” - Nice to see all those gamers are working to disprove the stereotype of the reactionary, misogynistic, hate-filled knuckle-dragging gamer. You stay classy, assholes.

Geekologie: Photo-Manipulated Disney Princesses In Real Life - There's more? I wonder if Jane is single...

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse - Wonder Woman & Big Barda vs The Female Furies - The DVD movie Superman/Batman: Apocalypse was fairly disappointing, but this sequence with Wonder Woman and Big Barda verse the Female Furies was a highlight. Actually, I think it might be the best part of the movie.
