► Last week was a massive pain in the ass, trying to maintain my daily LiveJournal entries.
The DDoS attacks all week kept me from finishing my two most recent posts. The attacks, my recent mood and bouts of depression (fueled by the heat, humidity, thoughts and guilt over
Bruce's death, and money worries) kept me from posting most of this week. Lately the journal has been seeming a bit futile to keep, and I've considered shutting it down and just abandoning it completely. I'm not going to do that just yet though.
► Dad and I went out today, and though I went a bit over what I wanted to spend on groceries, I managed not to buy anything but food. Money is going to be really tight for me this month since I'm still trying to pay off my credit card balance from when I over used it in May, while at the same time my pension is still being docked a large amount for the overpayment snafu from April (where the pension offices decided they had overpaid me $200 over the last 3 years).
The good news about my outing was that I finally got my gold chain repaired. The outside link of the clasp had been pulled apartment last winter when I caught it, but I was still able to use the now loose clasp to keep the 2 ends of the chain closed. When he picked me up, Dad said he wanted to go to the jewelery store at the mall to get his own chain repaired. He told me to give him mine so he could get both fixed. Luckily since my chain only needed a minor repair, we weren't charged for it (Dad's chain needed a new clasp so he had to pay around $16).
My gold chain is an old spare of Dad's that he gave me some 5 or 6 years ago to replace the broken chain that had belonged to my maternal grandfather. When my grandfather died in January of 2000, my grandmother gave me his gold chain and gold cross. I've worn that cross since (which is admittedly odd given I'm an agnostic).

FIRST LOOK: Henry Cavill as Superman - I'm surprised at how traditional the costume actually is, and not wildly revisionist (Edit: Ok, I found a larger copy of the pic and tweaked the brightness and contrast in Photoshop and he's not wearing the red shorts/britches. The textured blue body suit looks really odd without them, as if he's wearing long underwear. That's disappointing. They could have kept the shorts and just made them look like trunks and not briefs, or at least give him a red belt instead of black. Either would help break up the visual expanse of the blue suit.). The big surprise, however, is the symbol. Most people seem to be commenting on how large the symbol is, but I'm surprised no one else seems to have noticed that it actually looks most like the
Earth 2 Superman symbol and not the traditional symbol. I actually rather like that.
The mood and look of the pose, costume and pic reminds me of the
1940s Fleischer Superman cartoons. And that's a good thing.

Henry Cavill Talks Nutrition, The Superman Costume And Being True To The 'Man of Steel' - From the article:"I did love Superman: Doomsday The Death of Superman, Superman Returns, The New Krypton Saga especially, Red Son. Red Son was cool because it had the alternate story line. A lot of them I love, but recently, the one I read most recently was The New Krypton Saga, and I really enjoyed that."
Someone should have given him a copy of
All-Star Superman, but I'm guessing that's not the tone they want for the movie.

CBR TV @ CCI: Grant Morrison on “Action Comics, ” “New X-Men” and Much More - I trust
Grant Morrison on
Superman and specifically the
Action Comics relaunch. It's all the other writers (
George Perez on
Superman), editors (
Dan DiDio and
Jim Lee spearheading
the comic book changes) and directors (
Zack Snyder's upcoming
Man of Steel movie) who have me worried.

Comic Book Heroes: A conversation between Neil Gaiman and Grant Morrison - This should be made into a weekly series. Just
Gaiman and
Morrison discussing everything and anything.

Sofapizza: Ha-Ha-Ha I'm Batman - I'm sensing the start of a new Batman meme.

Lol Celebs Quote of the Moment
Lois Lane: Oh, your poor face.
Superman: No one can repair the sun but me, Lois. I'm turning into pure energy and I only have one chance to save the world.
Lois Lane: That's all you've ever needed.
Superman: I love you, Lois Lane, until the end of time.
