► It's a week later than I expected, but
my Gianna Michaels DVD finally came in the mail today. I think Adam & Eve need to rethink their packaging because it, along with the other 2 DVDs I got last week, arrived with the DVD case crushed. Another 3 disc DVD I'll have to gingerly keep in a 2 disc case.
This afternoon I got all of
the books I ordered from Amazon.ca (save for the 2 I ordered from a seller store through the site, those shouldn't arrive until at least the end of next week). I'm a bit confused, however, with how the books arrived. They were placed as 2 separate orders, the first with 6 books and the second with 3. The first order was split into 2 for packaging and shipping, and one half arrived a couple of hours ago. The second half of the first order and the second order were both shipped at the same time, and I received separate email notices and UPS tracking links for them. They just arrived combined in one large package. It was a bit of a surprise because it's the first time I've ever had that happen.
All the books are in great shape and look new, except for two from the first parcel, which are shelf worn.
Jack Staff, Vol 3 has slightly worn edges and corners, along with scratches and folds on the back cover.
Showcase Presents: Superman Family, Vol 3 has slightly browning pages and the glossy finish of the front cover is almost entirely scuffed. Just a bit of a surprise for a 2 year old book, but I suppose it has been sitting in a factory all this time.
One thing's for sure, as I focused more on buying DVDs these past few years, I missed getting a big box from Amazon and opening it to see stacks of comics. Heaven.
► Re-watching
Charlie's Angels season 4 after 30 years, I think
Shelley Hack got a raw deal from the show producers and the network. She was fired after the season, her first and only one, because of declining ratings. Effectively she was scapegoated for audience ennui, which continued in season 5 and a year after she had left lead to the series eventual cancellation.
My point is, watching the season 4 set, I think she came off really well in the episodes. Warm, bright, charming, personable and with just a slight hint of spunk. Despite her tall willowy elegance and regal poise, and her past as a popular cover model, she comes off as the most normal girl-next-door of all of the Angels to me. It's a shame they didn't put a bit of faith in her.
Hack, as
Tiffany Welles, was also the central Angel in what was the most defining Charlie's Angels episode of my childhood: Of Ghosts and Angels. The episode where Welles goes to investigate a haunting at the creepy home of a friend, a home haunted by the ghost of the friend's new, older, husband. Creeky floors and secret passageways, sinister gazy dreams of a shrieking woman in a wheelchair and the creepy Halloween party with a guy dressed as Satan. That episode bore into my 3/4 year old mind and both scared and titillated me. I honestly thank her for that.
