► Bit of a disappointing day of waiting. Second day and the landlord or whoever he was sending to fix our fireplace was a no show. Now it looks like I'll have to wait tomorrow in case they show. Guess that means it's unlikely I'll be able to go grocery shopping, and I need fresh bread and buns.
My Red Sonja drawing didn't arrive in the mail either, but I wasn't honestly expecting it too. Maybe it'll come tomorrow also.
► It seems that
FlickChart, the movie favourites rating site, has updated their algorithm system to make it a bit better. Or at least, somewhat more accurate. After my friend Matt told me about the changes and how he deleted his entire list so he could redo it, I did the same. Forgot how long it took to go through what I had, so it's going to take awhile to get all the movies I love back on the list and in some order.
Earlier, just for fun, I decided to compare all the
James Bond movies against each other and list them by my preference. I'm not sure how accurate the middle and lower ranked ones are, but it seems reasonable enough. Again, movies are ranked by repeatedly picking one of 2 randomly generated choices. 1 -
Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
2 -
Casino Royale (2006)
3 -
The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
4 -
Goldfinger (1964)
5 -
GoldenEye (1995)
6 -
Licence to Kill (1989)
7 -
You Only Live Twice (1967)
8 -
The World Is Not Enough (1999)
9 -
Live and Let Die (1973)
10 -
The Living Daylights (1987)
11 -
Dr. No (1962)
12 -
Quantum of Solace (2008)
13 -
From Russia With Love (1963)
14 -
For Your Eyes Only (1981)
15 -
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)
16 -
Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
17 -
The Man With The Golden Gun (1974)
18 -
Die Another Day (2002)
19 -
Moonraker (1979)
20 -
Thunderball (1965)
21 -
Never Say Never Again (1983; unofficial film)
22 -
Octopussy (1983)
23 -
A View To A Kill (1985)
I'm sure my list probably looks really bizarre. Dad was stunned to hear that I have
Dr. No and
From Russia With Love in the middle (I find them a bit dry), but I picked movies based on entertainment value and which I'd most want to watch in any given choice. For me, it's not about what's the best film, but what's the most fun or entertaining. Hence why the ridiculous
The World Is Not Enough is so high. Numbers 11 through 17 I probably like almost evenly. Also, even the lowest ranked films are fun and I'd gladly watch them. Even a bad Bond movie is still a Bond movie.
A further point I want to make, is that it's hard for me to choose between
GoldenEye and
Licence to Kill, so I sorta consider them both my number 5 favourite. And finally,
Timothy Dalton is my favourite Bond. Yes,
Connery is the original and the best, but my favourite is Dalton.
