Compulsive Hoarding Or How My DVD Collection Won't Stop Growing

Dec 29, 2009 21:43

► Should not have eaten that chewy granola bar this morning, or those 3 Toffee candies last night while my TMJ is inflamed. The side of my head is killing me today. Bleah.

► I've long realized I have compulsive hoarding, fed by my mild obsessive compulsive disorder and predisposition towards collecting things. For a long time I've felt bad about it, thinking I was really bad. That is, until I watched 2 episodes of Hoarders on A&E last night. Geezus... I'm almost normal by comparison (what with my lack of piles of trash, excrement, maggots, and dead decomposed cats and other small animals).

Looking up compulsive hoarding, it explains why I buy so many DVDs.* Last night I figured that I've accumulated roughly as many DVDs in 2009 as I had in the period from September 2006 through to December 2008. Of course, in that time period I was buying more books, comics, and action figures then I have this year, and I'm getting more cheap bin DVDs as the prices have dropped more then they were.

I really need to organize my room and finally go through and throw out stuff in the boxes filling my closet and the hallway outside my room.

* Actually, it also explains why my computer is filled with a hell of a lot of useless files. I obsessively collect pictures of comic book characters, celebrities, and nude models, so much so that I have almost all of my 200 GB hard drive filled.

► Speaking of my DVD collection being an example of my obsessive-compulsive hoarding, I bought another 9 DVDs at Walmart in the big sales displays yesterday when I went with Dean. That's 7 on Sunday, and 9 on Monday, totaling 16, which is the same amount of DVDs I bought on Boxing Day last year. Although, I didn't get any TV show season sets then.

I'll have to be careful in January.

I bought:► Wonder Woman: Season 3 ($10; it was the lone copy I found, misplaced, I spent the rest of the time there searching for Season 2, couldn't find it)
Transporter 3 (2008)
Taken (2008)
Adventureland (2009)
The House Bunny (2008)
The Spirit (2008; I've been told while it's a bad movie it's an entertaining one, at $5 I figured I'd give it a look)
The Forbidden Kingdom (2008; Jackie Chan!)
The Myth (2005; Jackie Chan!)
As Good As It Gets ()
Deana went to Ottawa with a friend of hers so they could do some shopping and hang out. I gave her a list of some things I'd like, the deal being that I would pay her for anything she bought me. She bought me 2 DVDs and a book.DVDs
Ben-Hur (1959)
Andy Richter Controls The Universe The Complete Series (this has been in my TV-shows-on-DVD release dream list for several years now, glad they finally released it this year)

Book
Leonard Maltin's Classic Movie Guide
I've been meaning to order the Classic Movie Guide from Amazon for 2 years now, but kept putting it off. I almost ordered it each time Dad and I have ordered from Amazon since September, and in fact, it was in my order I placed on the weekend before I found out about the Munsters complete series DVD.
