bizarre late nights and late call times are throwing me off. all the days run together, but the set is slowly getting done. sometimes i really want to kick Dean in the head though. as a TD he really lacks. he basically abandoned his crew last night at 1. the Genie wasn't working, so there was not as much need for the size crew we had. he was frustrated and said "If we don't need as many people, then i think the people who have to get up at six should be the first to leave" "whos that?" "me". wha-bam! (thats me wanting to punch him) so i shrug and tell him to get some sleep. the man can't function with less then average sleep.
how can you survive in theatre if you just shut down with lack of sleep? i know it doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes you need to suck it up.
Then Brian bailed out early too. he had been stupid and eaten Toxic Hell on one of the hotter days of the summer. so he got really sick. so then it was just me running a crew of Sam (sound tech and all around nice person), Tony (some TPAS alum) and Andy (useless guy up since 5:30 am). they were all getting loopy and i was getting frustrated with the upstage branch panels. I had labeled them all in a manner to make the installation process easier, but the labels all got covered in ethafoam, moorlastic, and gold paint. the guessing game wasn't working, and the upstage branches were barely visible, not to mention floppy. so i sent the crew home at 2. yeah, sent them home as opposed to abandoning them like my superiors.
fortunately i've been able to just crash at DJ's when i get out of work instead of driving all the way to my apt.
i can't believe i leave in less than a week.
