so the park is flooding. a lot. i swear i will eventually get pictures. no really, i will. well apparently when the river crests tomarrow, the level is going to be really close to the top of the dike ... which means sandbagging.
yesterday we sandbaged the entire dike about three layers of bags high. one large group was shoveling piles of sand into bags, another was pulling them out of trucks into stacks on the dike. i was a shoveler. Justin (AME) and I teamed up as a shovel/bag pair, alternating shifts on both. it was oddly fun. i think its all about the people you're working with. plus there's always a cathartic (vocab point) satisfaction to watching a big pile of sand dissappear. "I LOVE sandbagging!" Justin and i would yell. at first others joined us, but by hour 3, most were less enthusiastic then us. ah well ... sucks to be them. if i keep my energy up, a job doesn't get on my nerves as much.
the massive sunburn on my lower back that resulted from this is less then fun. i have a stripe from between the bottom of my shirt and the top of my pants that is bright red compared to my pasty white. my back also hurts a bit, but not as much as i expected. maybe tomarrow my body will really hate me.
I love sandbagging!
