Way to wait until the world is falling apart, Zev

Oct 21, 2010 03:00

[Well.

Zevran had been considering how to go about recruiting people for Olivier's army for days. Originally he'd actually intended for it to be cheerful, almost playful; certainly her side has enough seriousness as it is. Besides, she told him to be gregarious, and his baffling friendliness - in spite of his profession and many other factors ( Read more... )

[The voice is cold and professional.] Zevran; the Major General has spoken of you.

My name is Ciel. I would like to join you.

Has she? Dare I ask what she has said?

And you would be more than welcome.

That you are the man to speak to. Among other things, but we can spare the trifles tonight.

Are there any immediate plans to follow?

Certainly - though I hope to hear them at a later date, however unflattering I suspect they may be.

She has yet to speak on these most recent developments, but she had plans meant to come to fruition not long from now. How these matters affect them, I cannot yet say.

I would expect her to command some form of defensive measures shortly, however.

Hm. [There's a faint hint of amusement, but it leaves just as quickly as it comes.] Perhaps.

I'm aware of these, but what's happening at this moment is unlikely to be something that the Major General could have predicted. Until then, however, is there anything that could be done now?

Her orders are, essentially, that all recruits should prepare themselves to move. And you will likely need to report to her directly; she has various teams, and she will no doubt assign you to one that matches your abilities.

I have told her what I am capable of at this point in time: I favor daggers in both close proximity and as projectiles. I am also proficient in barehanded combat, as well as operating firearms. [...no point in hiding details now.] I am trained as an assassin, and I do believe that she would have meant your team, mister Arainai, when she has told me to specifically contact you.

Hah! No doubt she would have, as I am an assassin as well.

Very well, then! You shall work with me.

I would expect as much; it is good to make your acquaintance, despite the times. With what rank shall I refer to you as, and what would you suggest your team do in the meanwhile?

Olivier named me as her lieutenant, but please, call me Zevran. We will be fighting and - not to be overly pessimistic - most likely dying together; provided you do as I ask, I am hardly worried about titles.

We will be working to infiltrate the police station, when the time comes. Make whatever preparations you think are necessary...though, as an assassin, I suspect you possess all the relevant skills already, yes?

Understood. Zevran, then, and there's no need to be concerned over the truth. I have been called a dog by others in my line of work; I'm fully aware of how dispensable a mere pawn is on the battlefield. [Her tone's gotten lighter, however, despite saying such things.]

My speed is above average and I can do well in stealth, but I am still completely human and lacking in better presence concealment skills. ...There may be alternatives, but would it be alright to discuss such matters over the network?

Ah, but we are hardly dispensable, are we? We have important work to do. And, more than that...I have indeed worked for those who believe that I could be discarded without a second thought, in the past. I was not fond of that, and I would not work with Olivier now if I felt she was a return to that sort of thinking. She is prepared to make sacrifices for the greater good, but only those that cannot be avoided. And, fortunately, many sacrifices here are only temporary, which makes life - and death - a bit easier on all of us.

We can talk in person, if you like! Indeed, we will certainly need to at some point. You may find me at 1669 Nelson.

...Aha. I would say that it depends, but would it not be good for me, if I'm comfortable with both notions? The meaninglessness of death does make things easier, I do admit.

I would like that. May I come immediately, Zevran?

I'll be there soon.

[By which there will be a detour to the post office first. No (visible) wounds sustained! And Mayfield's memories are untouched, so really, the difference can't be told.

She used the fast route though, AKA wire pole hopping, so not even five minutes later she'll be there. If anyone in the house kept an eye outside, they'll MAYBE see a blur of black come down from the roof, before a couple of brisk knocks are sounded by the front door. He'll find a woman with short blue hair and black robes that may be familiar, if he ever dropped by the Church in Mayfield.]
