In which Zevran has an ~idea~

Jul 07, 2010 23:08

Olivier, Sniper, Hughes - would you perhaps like to come over? I have had a marvelous idea for how better to serve our great leader, and I would like you all to hear it in person. [Why, yes, he does mean 'this is not something I can say over the phones'.]

[...Well, shit. He's going to do his best to get over there, then, because he's curious as to what you could have possibly thought up.]

I would like to see what I can do for the motherland, if it will do something substantial.

Address?

Oh, yes, I had entirely forgotten you didn't know. 1669 Nelson Street!

I'll be there as fast as I can.

[He means this in that his limbs are so sore, walking has been a tedious, unfair task. But he makes it to your door and knocks. And Zevran may notice, Hughes' right hand is gone now and replaced with a tight white bandage around the wrist.

He looks like he's been working quite a bit.]

[Zevran opens the door and pauses, startled; he's fairly observant and he notices the bandage right away. Plus Hughes just doesn't look that good in general right now.] Forgive my saying so, but...you look terrible. [not without some sympathy] I take it your hand was punishment...? [He recalls hearing someone else mention something to that effect on the phones...] I would never have made you come all this way, had I known.

[He spared a glance downward to his hand, but it didn't last long.]

Yeah, apparently they didn't think I should have it anymore. Probably because I was a more violent offense.

[But he smiled and swatted the air with his good hand while he walked in, looking casual about the whole affair.]

Don't worry about it. Leaving that dingy old apartment is never a problem to me. As long as you have a chair somewhere in here, of course.

Naturally! [He gestures to one, then sits down nearby himself.] You are one of the few people I believe I can trust with this idea - to say nothing of the fact that I already know you have no great love of this place or those in charge of it. [wry grin]

[He smiles, too.]

Well, I can't say I like the gray hues of it all. I'd rather have a little blue in my sky, quite frankly.

[chuckles] Well, sadly, I have no easy solutions to that - but I do have an idea for how to, shall we say, rebel...? If you would be interested in running the risk.

[He frowns.]

It depends on the idea. I... have a few people I've been trying to help. It's not much, but I'm helping meet deadlines, even if it seems futile at best. And... someone I would consider my son was badly hurt at the factory, so I've been doing his job instead of my own.

[He rubs his forearm.]

But I'll do anything I can, if I think it'll be a plan worth fighting for.

[Zevran looks thoughtful.] I see...unfortunately, I cannot promise this plan will accomplish anything. I simply prefer at least trying something to simply accepting things as they are. After all, there are many who will fail to meet their deadlines, and others - like your son - who are being hurt regardless. Clearly things cannot simply remain this way.

[after a pause] I wish to set fire to the party leader's building.

[He blinks, looks down for a moment, and then looks up with a 'I must be crazy' sort of grin.]

That is the best way to get ourselves killed.

But certainly there's nothing wrong with being the best in everything we try, I suppose. If the others are willing, I'll do what I can to help.

On the condition that I may finish my next shift at work before we do go. I made a promise that I won't break.

[For Al's sake.]

Probably. I wouldn't mind a death that took our glorious leader down with me, mind you. [laughs] Even so, I doubt it will trouble him at all, not if he is anything like the men in charge of Mayfield when it is running normally. But an act of open defiance may at least break the facade of camaraderie here. I would almost rather be oppressed openly by a brutal dictator than being told how glorious things are when suffering under the exact same miserable conditions.

And waiting should not be a problem. I was thinking of gathering as many cases of vodka we can get our hands on, and stacking them around the leader's house - I can give some excuse about overflow and storage space, most likely. I can be quite persuasive. And vodka is one of the few things this country seems to have plenty of. But regardless, gathering enough - maybe twenty, thirty cases? - will take a bit of time. If you know anyone trustworthy who could assist us in gathering them, it would be a great help.

I don't know anyone in charge of alcohol, but I'm sure it wouldn't be too long before we run into someone. But stacking the crates near their place may be too challenging of a objective, if they view it as a potential threat...

I could, perhaps, present them as...shall we say a bribe? Subtly, of course. "Our glorious leader should sample the fruits of our labor, as without him they would not be possible", or something to that effect.
