Some bumblebees have built a nest in a hole in the eaves. It's far enough away so that it won't bother anyone on the balcony, but close enough that we can see what's going on.
In any case, the honey the bees have been making have attracted ants to that site. The bees and the ants are both there at the same time, making things rather uncomfortable. The bumblebees don't like them, and often they end up getting driven off by the ants, which swarm them as they land.
It kind of reminds me of the bees and wasps back in nova scotia. They did not like eachother and often killed eachother over shed supremecy. You could see new carcasses every day.
