An excerpt from Star Trek: A Study in Alternate Realities

Alternate Universes and Alternate Selves

In 2009 a movie was released based on a television show from the 1960s (link: television show; link: movie). Both titled 'Star Trek', they were centered around the exploits of the Federation starship Enterprise in the 23rd century, its captain James T Kirk and his First Officer Spock, a Vulcan. Considered high science fiction in its time, the show and related movies appear to be uncannily accurate in their representation of the future.

The burgeoning internet community of the twenty-first century found those who idealized many of the members of the movie and formed what was called the Star Trek Kink Meme (link: Kink Meme), a site dedicated to the sexual exploits of many of the crew.

Now it is 2259. Two hundred fifty years later, the tragic plot lines have come to life as the plots and characters of this movie closely resembled those currently on board the ship and what has happened to this this past year. Vulcan was lost. Earth was saved by Kirk and Spock.

I postulate this meme appears to be the initial break into the space/time continuum (link: Rugnu's theorem regarding external breeches of space/time, 2164). The initial rupture that led to the transferring between realities occurred when original Trek characters and Nu Trek characters began to intermingle in works of fiction posted across the Earth network known as the World Wide Web (link: World Wide Web).

Once the breech was sundered, more realities were displaced, leading to the situation currently on board. Actors from the original television show two hundred year ago. Starfleet officers from the future. Dead family members brought back to life.

There have been several distinct realities localized to this ship.

Distinct realities

* Prime - unchanged by Nero

* Mirror Prime - unchanged by Nero, Vulcan subjugated by Terran Empire; closer in physical appearance to the Prime reality

* Nu (the colloquialism given to our own reality); distinct and altered by Nero with persons appearing
- from the dead
- from the past
- from the possible future

* Mirror Nu - altered by Nero, Vulcan subjugated by Terran Empire; closer in physical appearance to our reality

* An alternate future where the Earth was destroyed in the attack by the Romulan Nero

* A gender-swapped reality where those who are males in our world are female, and those who are female are male.

In this paper I will try to disseminate the reasons and offer a hypothesis on why this ship, and why these people. [cont.]

[ooc: you can assume that if you are in any way displaced, come back from the dead, or related to someone who's come back from the dead, Roger has discussed you in this paper. Feel free to be appropriately outraged or excited. Peace.]
