Which I come at from the point of view of someone who has only seen Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, and the first episodes of Daredevil (which I might one day catch up on) and Iron Fist (which I definitely will not).
So:
*I am into this show 100% for superheros getting to know each other with bonus supporting character interactions, and literally for nothing else. So while I find the plot here uninteresting, I don't know if it's because it really is super uninteresting or just because I'm not paying attention (or don't have the relevant backstory). But yeah, every time The Hand come onscreen, or fight scenes get extended without interesting banter, I tune out.
*I really loled at Matt Murdock breaking Jessica's camera. Like... was this supposed to also coincidentally break the SD card where all her photos are stores?
*I did not expect to but I'm definitely enjoying Matt Murdock! He seems nice and sad and not very full of himself. I'm interested now in figuring out this whole falling out (?) with Foggy since whenever I saw Foggy in MCU fic he was usually a good dude.
*It's pretty astounding just how bad Iron Fist is. Like - he just does not fit in with everyone else there on any level, and every word that comes out of his mouth just sounds like such ridiculously entitled whining. I don't know if it's the actor, the character, the dialogue or the casting or the combination of them all, but so many times (like when it's him against the three others and they've got him imprisoned) I just can't figure out whether we're supposed to be on his side and feel sorry for him, or see him for the brat he is. Like, all of his "DON'T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN LUKE" and "I'VE LOST EVERYTHING!!" and "DON'T YOU SEE YOU'RE PLAYING INTO THEIR HANDS BY BEING AGAINST ME!!!" and "I WILL PUNCH YOU!"s are just - wtf?? Also every time he warns "the MOMENT I CAN I'm summoning my chi and you'll never see me again mom you'll be sorry!" just makes me laugh, like. I need that to be the running joke in the MCU forever, between the Defenders and the Avengers and everything.
*I wanna ask why they're not calling in any of the Big Superheroes to help them out but then, after Civil War, I can understand how that might be a problem.
*Pretty much everything I'm about to say has the disclaimer of "were it not for Iron Fist", but episode 4 was so great! Just a bunch of superhero strangers locked in a space for an hour trying to figure out what's going on and whether they can trust each other. This is my JAM. I also like how, unlike the way the Avengers formed as an organized and voluntary team, these guys really had a lot more reluctance and distrust on everyone's parts, a lot more skepticism about each other's origin stories, and an unwillingness to share information, which makes both their arguments and the times they cooperate so much more interesting.
*Man, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, when Luke's babysitting him in ~prison. The scene where they start bonding a little when Luke lets Danny tell him about how tragically painful his story is - it's like, that scene would have been perfect, it would have been written FOR ME... were it not for Iron Fist. Like, Luke's sympathetic "That must have hurt" would have made me flail happily in canon or in fic, WERE IT NOT FOR FREAKING IRON FIST who just makes it seem like Luke is trying to placate a child gah.
*Lol did Jessica just solve all of Matt's daddy issues with a single line, interviewing the daughter?
*Also lol at Colleen's "I can't believe I'm about to admit this, but... all I want is a bit of stability." A shocking confession!
*The ending - Daredevil and Buckylektra's fight was very, uh, fraught, and I either wasn't paying attention or it wasn't really explained at which point exactly they... won each other over, but that hardly mattered. The dialogue for pretty much the entire episode felt like it was written by a comic book prompt generator. "I lost you once. I'm not going to lose you again." "You know nothing." "Take care of my city."
*Speaking of which it's really weird coming into Daredevil and Iron Fist as an outsider and seeing that possessiveness of New York, especially when this is a universe when so many other superheroes have lain claim to being guardians of the city already.
*Jessica holding the elevator was legit awesome.
*I liked the setup for Misty's arm! Gah I wish we could get a season of Misty Knight instead of another season of Iron Fist (if that's in the works, idek).
Er that's it I guess. In conclusion: I'm glad I know who Daredevil is now?
