Just curious - the story about Martin Pistorius waking up from a 12 year near-vegetative state has been making the news rounds for the past week

That is NOT a vegetative state. That is called locked in syndrome and it is absolutely not the same. It's super irresponsible for the media to call this vegetative bc that implies someone who has no brain function could wake up and be fine and that does NOT happen. This man had brain function but not enough to interact which is what makes it horrifying. It is very uncommon, thankfully.
