I have to say, yesterday I was going to make an actual positive post, which like - everything is relative, but it had points going for in that: (1) no sirens in Tel Aviv for more than 24 hours (since then: more than 48 even), and more importantly (2) my sister spent the weekend in a base much closer to home and we visited her for 3 hours and it was ( Read more... )

Do you know what some Israeli media said about MH17? "This will buy Israel some time while the rest of the world is preoccupied by the crash." I swear, people are just gross, ugh. Meanwhile my middle sister is a flight attendant and now she's all stressed that the same thing can happen to an Israeli plane, deliberately, and there's really nothing soothing to reply with. Idk, it CAN.

Anyway - I'm sure dealing with the crash is super painful and rightfully heading up news in Australia :( Ugh WHY IS TRAGEDY.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is delightful, okay. It turns into a way better show than it starts out as. I remember watching the pilot, it most definitely did not knock me off my feet - the characters were too cartoony, the chemistry wasn't all there, it felt a little like it was trying too hard. A few episodes in though it really settled, and the entire cast gel with each other perfectly, the jokes are constant and on point, the douchey characters turn sweet, some plotlines (unnecessary UST) from the pilot change course. It's just a fun show :-) I jumped to episode 10 and watched a few after that, then went back to catch up on the beginning of the season, and skipped forward again to finish the season.

Oh sheesh, that's a terrible quote. People are really gross :-( Also sadly - probably true. NO ONE I know here has mentioned the situation at all.

They've probably mentioned the Dutch/Israeli guy in the media? He was a student at an Australian uni (not the one I work at). Apparently he'd served in the IDF as a paratrooper in 2008 and had since moved to Australia to study and now this? His poor parents, they must've had so much anxiety when he was serving and now this happens once their guard is down :-(

Your poor middle sister, that's so stressful. I feel so bad for the Malaysian Airlines employees. They've lost a bunch of friends this year.

Thanks for the heads up about the pilot of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I won't let it stop me. I love recs from people because you get advice like this (when I got into Fringe again having watched the pilot back in the day and turned it off for the ewwwwwwww opening scenes it really helped to be told by a trusted friend which episode I had to start on and to only go back later to the start once I already loved the characters)
