I hope everyone who had a/is going to have a seder tonight had(/will have!) a nice evening! Ours was nice. There were adorable little children, and nuts to play with, and the haggadah reading went by really fast (I always forget how annoying various family members can get during the haggadah -- will you for god's sake please stop correcting people as they read, especially the little kids! Stop trying to show off your superiority/superior sense of humor and let the child try to read the text before you correct their pronunciation! -- but anyway). And oh yeah, there was food. That tends to happen. Tonight's feast included:

Stuff you nibble on during the haggadah reading (matza with stuff, potatos with saltwater, eggs with saltwater), gefilte fish, chopped liver, eggplants, soup with kneidlach (matza balls), green salad, carrot & cranberries salad, rice, tongue, chicken with chestnuts, potatoes & sweet potatoes, stuffed onions (with rice and prunes), and for dessert: fresh fruit (kiwis, strawberries, prickly pears), parve lemon meringue cake, and chocolate matza cake.

I had EVERYTHING. Because what are holiday dinners for if not gorging /o\

I also enjoyed daydreaming about how utterly adorable Brendon Urie would have been as the baby of the family at a seder, in an alternate universe where he was Jewish which I would never write. But it would have been adorable.

I also learned something new about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from my cousin:

Cousin: You know how the Turtles always used to love anchovies as pizza toppings?
Me: Yeah.
Cousin: And I never got why, because anchovies as pizza toppings, they're kind of gross. Why would the Turtles like them so much?
Me: Right.
Cousin: And you know how their anchovies looked round and brown, like pepperoni slices?
Me: Yes.
Cousin: That's because THEY WERE pepperoni slices. The Israeli dubbers translated them to anchovies to make the pizzas kosher.

My world, guys, it is ROCKED. The Turtles never liked anchovies! Who knew?

My grandmother was adorable too. I complimented her on her skirt, and she said, "Oh, thank you! It's vintage." :D About a year ago we had a long conversation where we explained to her what hipsters were and then what vintage meant (in the fashion sense), and since then she's been carefully cataloging every vintage piece she owns. "Wait," I said, "is this real vintage from the 70s or fake vintage from Renuar's 2011 spring collection?" "No no, it's real vintage," she promised. "From a store that said vintage on the front. There was a sign." I'm still not sure what it means, but she looked very fashionable :D And then I helped her reply to an email from Yoram Kaniuk who sent her a photo of them from elementary school where they were in the same class, because why not.

This year I have no Passover fic of my own, but via
seekingferret a rec for a wonderful NCIS fic about Ziva, which deals with the fact that she's basically left Israel in favor of America in a much more realistic and therefore painful (but beautiful) way than the show did. I really loved it. Descent by
hagar -- NCIS, gen, 1000 words. Ziva doesn't intend to lie, but she does anyway. It's truth-telling that takes deliberate effort, or rather it's honesty that does; to say that this is the first time she's ever eaten hametz during Pesach would be equally untrue, but it would be honest.

As usual, I repost my big list of Passover-themed fics! Including fics by self. They are alphabetized by fandom, updated with stuff I've found this year. Check them out, they're probably nice :D
