I was feeling down today, so here is my post of collected happy things.
1. In case you weren't aware, a few days ago, this happened:
Yeah, that's right. That is a paisley-wearing, eyeliner-donning Brendon and Spencer standing in the still cooling phantom footprints of Adam Lambert at the NewNowNext Logo Awards. Also with
video proof. I would not object to people writing fic about that evening.
2. MCR had an acoustic session for 98.7FM Penthouse something. This is the first time I've heard them do anything acoustically, and it's pretty awesome, especially with older songs that I don't really like otherwise (Helena, Ghost of You). The
videos are very pretty (others linked to at the side) -- I love how for MCR 'acoustic' means drums, bass, piano, and two guitars -- or you can download the (high quality) audio here:
The Ghost of YouCancerI'm Not Okay (I Promise)SingSummertimeHelena 3. It was Gerard Way's birthday on Friday, so
picspams happened! I especially enjoy the
macro threads in the comments.
4. I love
this interview with Frank and Ray so much; it's just them talking about their guitar parts and playing their guitar parts (Na Na Na, Bulletproof Heart, Planetary Go, some Mama) and ngh their playing. It's also gorgeously shot. And it has notes for anyone who wants to learn how to play the actual parts (
jae, Dutch music magazines are now my favorites.)
5. Vids:
(a)
Marching On (Harry Potter), linked to by everyone at Muskrat Jamboree who said they cried while watching it. It's a beautifully edited vid that combines footage from all 7 movies and I will take it over any of the movies themselves.
(b)
My Chemical Romance vid, full of lots of quotes and ~message and this is why fandom likes this band, other than the, you know, the pretty and the music and the slash. It made me aww.
(c)
Pete/Patrick vid! The pairing itself does not do too much for me, but I'm always incredibly impressed with vidders who manage to make good videos with RPF, especially vids that seem to tell a story, because collecting footage and editing it into something aesthetically pleasing is so, so difficult.
6. Fic recs:
Do Androids Dream of Expensive Scarves (Bandom) by
fictionalaspect -- Brendon/Spencer, mentions of past Ryan/Spencer, PG-13. 6400 words. Post-split fluff. Now with 100% more robots! MOST CATHARTIC EVER, guys. How better to get over a split than by taking your frustrations out on a Ryanbot? ♥♥♥
Stay Awake When I'm Asleep (Social Network RPF) by
passe_simple -- Jesse Eisenberg/Andrew Garfield, 36,000 words | Contents May Include: An ASTONISHING amount of curtainfic and schmoop. Some sex. Once again, a perfect little romantic comedy of utter adorableness and perfect voices.
7. Podfic:
diane_mckay has made a podfic of
Post Lambert, Ergo Propter Lambert that you can download
here <3.
8. Podcasts: I've been downloading podcasts of NPR's
Pop Culture Happy Hour (via
harriet_vane's rec) and I love them; it's just a bunch of geeks sitting around and discussing pop culture and things that made them happy this week and they are funny and articulate and kind of sound like I imagine a fandom podcast would, except without discussion of actual fic. Speaking of which, why isn't there a fandom podcast? Or is there one (or several) that I just don't know of? Once upon a time
ontd_ai had a weekly live-streamed radio show, which was pretty cool. Anyone know of anything else like that?
9. Whatever, here are some more Panic pictures. Just because.
(aaand the close up:)
the fanboy section
How worrying is it when Rainn Wilson looks like the most put together person in any bunch of people?
You finally get convinced that Brendon is not just a human embodiment of a puppy, and then.
(asspat!)
Brittany: How would you sum up the band Panic! At the Disco? What makes it really interesting, special and noteworthy as a band?
Brendon: Well, I think Spencer is a pretty special guy.
Spencer: (laughs)
Brendon: So that’s special.
Brittany: Just being together with your best friend?
Brendon: Yeah, it is nice, you know?
