Two questions of zero importance:

1. Out of curiosity, a question those of you who celebrate Christmas: when do you get bigger/flashier/more thoughtful presents, on Christmas or on your birthday? Like, if you got a book for one and an iPod for the other, which would be for what? I know it depends on many factors and whoever's gifting you etc, I'm just curious about which one generally gets the bigger gifting.

2. Telephones! A while ago I was at a museum that displayed an old early 20th century telephone, with detailed instructions on how to use it from, like, 1910. It included things like:

press the receiver against your ear. You will hear a whir: kkkkkkkkkkkkkktkkkk
request to be connected. you will hear a purr with intervals: rrrr rrrr rrrr rrrr

and so forth, anyway, it was hilarious.

I naturally grew up in a house with telephones. I got my first cellphone on my 18th birthday. My mom, however, enjoys her "uphill in the snow!" story of how when she was a girl, her family had to be on a waiting list for three years before getting a telephone (after they left the kibbutz when she was five. In the kibbutz, everyone shared a telephone or something).

Anyway, anyone have any interesting telephone stories? When did you get your first telephone? When did your grandparents get their first telephone, if they had one?
