I've been seeing recs for vids screened at Vividcon for a few days now, and my absolute favorite has been American Tune, by greensilver. It's a West Wing vid set to Simon and Garfunkle, and not that I'm super insightful or anything, but I'll just reiterate the comment I left it:

Oh my god, this took my breath away and brought me close to tears. The song choice was amazing -- half of S&G's songs remind me of TWW for one reason or another, and god, seeing all these moments edited so beautifully together make me want to road trip through the US and visit DC and vote for Obama and travel back in time to 1999 so I can feel that anticipation of knowing a new episode's going to air in a few minutes. The smiles and the heartache and the dedication and the love -- I haven't thought about this show or seen an episode for a while, and this vid just brought back all my love for it and it's kind of overwhelming. Beautiful, beautiful vid.

All my love for this show, it's in this vid. And this is actually my 1000th LJ entry (and 993rd DW one, for some reason), and I'd been thinking I should commemorate it in a way -- a meme? A fic? Something deep and thinky? -- but really, a WW vid rec feels oddly fitting, considering that TWW was my primary fandom when I got into LJ (not to mention the fandom through which I was invited to LJ, and thanks again,
jae :-)). I think half of my entries those first few months all had footnotes like "[Next s4 WW episode] will finish downloading in 2 days, 17 hours and 52 minutes..." Oh, KaZaa, those were the days. I do not miss them. (This animation pretty much described what DLing felt like those days. It really really sucked.)

And while I'm reccing, I'll also mention Apples Are Not The Only Fruit by bexless, an American Idol Kris/Adam AU (23,000 words, NC-17). Reccing it seems a bit redundant since I'm pretty sure anyone following the fandom has already read it by now, but on the chance that you aren't but might be interested, it bears repeating. This fic is everything I love about AUs: long and detailed, seeing the characters' first impressions of one another, amazing characterization, awesome humor, fantastic sexual tension (that gets realized before the end of the 23K, don't worry), great supporting characters -- and a really cool plot and premise, despite that author's claim that "basically nothing happens in it". I could go on and on with the superlatives, but really, the important thing is that for the entire fic I could not stop beaming at my laptop screen and laughing out loud and squeeing with glee. So -- recced, (I would even go so far as to say it's worth trying out even if you don't know the fandom -- it really is a fun and cozy AU.)
