Summertime, and the livin' is easy...

It's so weird that they've changed to winter time. Sunset's at about 5PM now, so days are short and nights are long, and LJ times have changed too - I start seeing US east coast updates at 3PM instead of 2, and the west coast people post their night entries at 11AM instead of 10.

It used to get angry at the fact that we switch back to winter time so early - always too early, it felt - for the benefit of religious Jews. The clock changes before Yom Kippur so that the fast will feel easier to deal with. It sounds like dumb reasoning to me (the fast isn't supposed to be easier), but since I don't care about the fast myself it's not for me to say. The main things that bothered me about it were a) feeling like I was being coerced by religious lobbyists to live according to the timetable that fits their prayers more comfortably, and b) thinking that summer time saved money and energy.

However, I've read some (non-partisan) articles that pointed out that b) there's no conclusive data saying that summer time saves energy (for example, while longer daylight saves electrical light, people use more A/Cs). And as for a), this is one issue I can let go of. Score one for them, whatever, one of the costs of trying to attempt the paradox of a "Jewish democracy". So I've decided - consciously, it's kind of weird - not to be angry about it anymore. As much as I love winter, giving up on an hour of daylight will probably always feel too early, whether it happens now or in a month.

But hey, none of that's important! the REALLY IMPORTANT THING I wanted to share with you all is that Desperate Housewives have managed to cast an ADORABLE pair of redheaded twins that are not only Matt Damon clones, but exactly like I've always pictured Fred and George Weasley. They are Fred and George come to life! Witness the cute:
