Mothers Day weekend

May 11, 2009 23:54

I had a pretty good weekend, course I spent most of it at my mom and dads house hanging out with the family so that is always fun.

Saturday, my mom and dad were having a garage sale. The whole town was pretty much having one. They had a scenic drive/yard sale event along the highway for about 50 miles, so people spent the morning going to garage sales in the area. I went out to spend some time with my family and to help out a bit at the sale. My brother Roger and his family had come out and brought some stuff for the yard sale too. All in all we made about $130 between all of us, I wound up with about $7 since I just had some books, games, and old VHS movies in the sale (most of which went to Goodwill). After dinner Saturday, I took a little walk out by the Lake, but didn't walk very far. I did spend some time out on the little pavillion/dock that they have out there and watched the bluegills and bass swim around the dock for a bit before heading back to Richards. Was going to go see a movie, but decided not to. Too tired and wasn't in the mood to watch any of the movies that were out. So I pretty much just had an early night since I had to get up early the next day.

Why? Because my dad, brother, nephew and I went mushroom hunting Sunday morning. I had a lot of fun putting some of my survival skills to the test (following trails, direction, locating someones position without being able to see them, etc.). Tanner, as a 9 year old boy, didn't have as much fun in the muddy, thorny, dense wildnerness but he did have a fairly good time trapesing around in the forest. He spent pretty much the entire time following me and only got scared a couple of times when he couldn't see or hear his dad or grandpa, but I calmed him down and taught him a little on how to track people out in the wilderness with sound and to guesstimate probable positions and everything.

Our mushroom hunt wasn't all that successful, but we did find 3 large Morel Mushrooms! And I was really happy that I found the first one on our hunt! A little while after, my dad found two more, and Roger and Tanner didn't have any luck. My dad and brother didn't really want them too bad since there were only a couple, so I took them. After we got back home, we changed out of our wet, muddy clothing and had a cookout with ribs and brats and gave our mom her mothers day presents. It was kind of funny, my brother Bill and I got her the exact same card. After Lunch, my brothers headed back home since they either had to work that night, or had a long trip home. I stayed a little while longer and talked to my mom a bit about the upcoming move. They are all excited and happy for me and really like Phyllis... but they are sad to see me move so far away. But like I told them, it's only a 3 hour train trip away, and a couple hour drive, so I will be back home occassionally. And they will always have a place to stay when they come up to go to the zoo or want to see the sights! But after we talked a bit I went back to Richards and had a nice chat with Phyllis before she had to go back to studying for her final exam on Tuesday, and then I pretty much went to bed since I was fairly tired and had to go to work early today.

Today I went in and worked at Bergners for a couple of hours doing a big move in the bedding department and then changing some light bulbs. Nothing too major and I got a few more hours out of the deal. After I got back to Richards, my knee began to really hurt for no real reason. It didn't hurt at all all weekend, and it didn't hurt when I was working at Bergners, but the second I got back it began to hurt. Hopefully it will feel better tomorrow. But despite the pain in my knee, I worked a couple of hours for Richard, then made myself lunch.

I had a 4 egg omelette with garlic pepper fried ham and mushrooms (the morels that we got yesterday) with shredded cheese. It turned out very yummy! But other than that, nothing exciting happened today. Well I think I will go mess around on the computer a little while longer and then head to bed to let my knee heal.
