Armed and Dangerous

Well, not yet, but in 6 to 8 weeks I will be! Yesterday I applied for my gun permit. I went down to a local hunting and fishing shop and was thinking I would just get the form, go and fill it out, and then send it in along with a small photo. Nope, turns out they do the whole thing there, picture and all.

So now I have a pretty awful looking picture on my gun card probably since I was not looking my best when they took the picture. Hopefully they use my drivers license photo instead. But one filled out form, one picture, and $17 later, I did everything I needed to to get a gun card.

What is the reason I may want and/or need a gun permit you may ask? Well for one, I do want to go shooting with Phyllis or my family someday here. And two, I want to go hunting. And you kinda need a gun permit to do that with.

Actually I would love to try bow, spear, and stick hunting... but not sure what the regulations for those are at the moment, so blasting things with guns will have to do.

I have been in a fairly Outdoorsy/Mountain man kind of mood the past couple of months. I want to hunt, fish, gather wild plants to eat. Part of it is just because I enjoy that sort of thing A LOT more than I did when I was growing up. Which I kind of regret now since I grew up around a fairly knowledgeable outdoorsman in my father. Luckily, I still have a chance to learn and spent time with him doing that, so hopefully I will get a chance to do that sometime soon.

And part of it is that I have probably been watching waaay too much Survivorman here lately. I would love to go out into the wilds and try to survive with just some bare basics and my own knowledge and wits. Then I remember, I have nowhere near the knowledge needed to do that. And that I love hot showers and cold drinks waaay too much to live like that unless I had to. BUT if I had to, I think I would do fairly well living like that. It just wouldn't be fun or comfortable in any way, shape, or form.

And I am also going to go get my fishing license for when Phyllis comes down for the weekend so we can fish together. I still am not a big fan of fishing, but in the right company I am sure I will enjoy it and have a good time :)

So small game animals, you have been put on notice... you have around 6 to 8 weeks to hide someplace before I have my gun card and a license to kill varmints!
