A bunch of ficlet and fic recs
I'm rummaging around in the archives of kinkme_merlin and I really need to say that the mods at that community have done and are still doing an amazing job of sorting all the prompts and fics, making sure all the tags and warnings are right, keeping an eye on all the posting and commenting that goes on all over the place, answering questions, adjusting rules, steering conversations back on the rails or putting the brake on them if necessary... I could go on really. Of course the writers deserve praise too, which is something they get through the feedback. But today, while browsing through that mass of neatly filed fills, I was struck with the thought, 'OMG what a Herculean task!'
Anyway, here are some of the fics and ficlets that I particularly enjoyed yesterday and today:
'Velvet underground' (Arthur/Merlin, 614 words, Arthur POV, NC-17) and 'Camouflage nights' (Arthur/Merlin, 576 words, Merlin POV, NC-17)
Prompt: pining, longing, of the desperate, self-contained kind Arthur wished that for once, just once, Merlin would stay through the night. That's all he wants, all he would need, to get through it - to go to sleep feeling Merlin beside him, to wake up to the sight of Merlin in his bed in the morning. Just once...that's all. Is it asking too much?
Very painful and heartbreaking in how they both hide their true feelings for each other.

Arthur is a bully, Merlin is an adorable outsider. They are friends (or lovers), but no one knows about it.
Arthur surprises Merlin and himself in a good way, and the violence is of a very satisfying variety. On a sidenote: I got nostalgic Casey/Zeke vibes from this ficlet ♥

Doesn't quite fit the prompt (yet, as this is the first part of what could be a WIP) so I'm not adding it, but it can easily be read as a stand alone as far as I'm concerned. Quick, frantic and happy mutual handjob up against a door. Yum!
'One & only' by freudian_fuckup (Arthur/Merlin, 6,200 words, warning for underage sex, AU, NC-17)
Prompt: extreme underage
Keeping the warning and the prompt in mind, this is an AU set roughly a century ago, where Arthur and Merlin grow up together, Merlin as the son of Hunith who's a servant at the Pendragon estate. There's a very close bond between them where they share everything, including exploring their sexuality, starting with kissing as children, leading up to more as they grow older and become young teenagers. It's all based on mutual trust. When they are caught at it, they're separated abruptly until they meet again years later as young adults.
It's a delicate subject and I feel it's done right and satisfying.
'Merlin's magic toyshop' by social_retard86 (Arthur/Merlin, 4,380 words, crack, modern AU, NC-17)
Prompt: Merlin sells sex toys on late night tv and Arthur becomes totally obsessed with him.
This is such delicious and shameless crack! It's something that's often sort of frowned upon in the Merlin fandom, but I come from Lotrips and SGA where this was done all the time and I love it :D
