Oh god, I feel so conflicted about the upcoming Merlin episode! I'm going to discuss the nature of spoilers behind the lj-cut and I'll be using examples, so there will be spoilers for Merlin episodes 2x4 to 2x8, and for Merlin 2x9 what we've seen in trailers so far, the synopsis and at the end of episode 2x8.
First of all: spoilers are details about a story that you haven't seen yet and that will take away part of the joy of the experience. What a spoiler exactly contains is personal for everyone. Some people avoid plotspoilers but don't mind casting spoilers. Some people don't mind seeing a scene that doesn't really move the story along but hate plotspoilers.
Personally I try (often unsuccessfully because I'm weak like that) to avoid images and scenes. I don't mind general plotspoilers so much. I do mind detailed plotspoilers. For example; I regretted watching the 'Merlin takes the guards out using magic and barrels' scene and the 'Merlin cheers himself up with a smoke-horse' scene. I wouldn't have minded knowing that it was Merlin who would prevent Arthur from killing his father, I wouldn't have wanted to know (and in fact didn't know) how he'd do it.
Now for the upcoming episode I really, absolutely don't want to see any more scenes than I already have, and I don't want to know exactly in detail, what will happen, but there are some things I really, really want to know. So I'm going to wait until after it has aired and I was wondering if there's someone who would be willing the answer my question in general terms?
Merlin/Freya is not going end happily, that's for sure, but it makes a big difference if Merlin for example has to pick between staying with Arthur or going along with Freya, or if he has to show his loyalty to Arthur by betraying Freya. And I'm not sure if I want to see the episode at all if Freya dies and it's Merlin's loyalty to Arthur that will, however indirectly, be the cause of that. Lets just say, I hope that the makers of this series will be as careful with Merlin's soul as Merlin has been with Arthur's.
