This entry of mine was very badly worded. Let me try and explain my view on the Supernatural matter:
- I think Dean's behaviour is wrong and I think Sam is on the wrong track too. I don't get the whole 'oh, but these are guys, and guys talk and act like that so it's ok', because I think that guys talking and behaving like that is wrong.
- I don't think the show is misogynous because they are showing us Dean and Sam this way, because Dean and Sam are supposed to be fucked up badly. Their behaviour is not being justified or glorified, at least that's not how I see it. I think their behaviour is being shown as wrong. It's pointed out more than once that Sam is not the old Sam anymore. Dean is scared to death by the end, and acting like a wild cat driven into a corner with no escape.
- I can completely understand when people are sick and tired of seeing women being treated badly, of men saying 'whore' and 'bitch' at every given opportunity. Dean has from the start, and it's getting far worse, and Sam has started too. The only reason I can handle it myself is because of the things I say in the previous point. I can understand that it's getting too much for others. That's not being over-sensitive. Maybe I can handle it because I'm desensitized.* But again, the 'boys will be boys' argument is wrong. It's not ok because they're boys.
- I do think the show is sexist because they've no strong female characters left and they have no excuse for that. I want Ellen! I miss Jo!
- Just to be clear:
this post had nothing to do with the whole Supernatural thing.
* for me it's a choice between being desensitized, or going crazy. Quite literally in fact.
